  1. I looked at the Ambient Light Adjustment plugin, but it only seems to make a difference when it's dark, rather than on the amount of light that a planet receive during the day. I also did some research, and found that KSP uses a spline-based light level calculation system, but I want to see if I can modify this to use levels based on real-world equations, allowing for a more realistic results and completely dark rogue planets. Does anyone know how I might modify the existing calculations?
  2. I'm looking at working with Planet Factory to create some rogue planets in my solar system, but I don't want them to receive any light from Kerbol due to their distance. Is there any existing mod that exists that scales light reception of a planet to distance from their star? This would also be useful with a stock solar system, as Eeloo would be significantly darker than a planet closer to Kerbol.
  3. Its actually not too bad when played backwards...
  4. Thanks, it's a pretty effective design. One thing I would do would be to add some winches near the sides of the hangar and some radial attachment ports near the wingtips. This would remove a lot of the wobble I was seeing.
  5. I've been thinking about re-usable ships in KSP alot since I first heard of the idea. I've been mentally planning the infrastructure of a re-usable system for at least a week, so I decided to try and create one. I created a simple bomber using mostly B9 parts with KAS winches on the ceiling of the cargo bay. These winches allow me to load and unload cargo (or bombs) into the same plane, instead of re-creating it multiple times with different payloads. The problem with this system is that there is not enough clearance between the ground and the bottom of the fuesalage to move the payload into position. To solve this, I decided to lift the entire plane up with a huge crane to increase the clearance. After the plane was complete, I rolled it off the runway and got to work on the crane. The first step was to create a giant frame that I could fit the entire plane under. The first iteration rpoved too small, but expansions on the second provided about a metre of clearance on both sides of the wings. The next issue was stability. The first iteration of the frame was heavily strutted, but it was still a little floppy, even without a load. When I expanded the frame, I also added a stabilizing truss along the top. This greatly helped with the stability. I also added some Gigantor solar panels to ensure that I did not lose power during a lift or similar operation. Refit process 1) The plane is rolled under the crane and the winches are attached courteousy of the pilot 2a) The plane is lifted about 10 metres off the ground, its cargo bay opened, and landing gear retracted 2b) Plane is stabilized, as it has a tendency to roll while it is hanging from the frame 3) The cargo truck is parked under the cargo bay 4) Cargo bay winches are extended and ground crew (Jeb) comes along to attach them to the truck 5a) The fuel tank (cargo/bomb) is detached from the truck and lifted into the fueselage of the plane 5b) The cargo truck is driven off the runway to ensure it doesn't get in the way 6) The cargo bay doors are closed 7) The plane is lowed to the ground 7) The crane detaches from the plane and its winches retract 8) Plane taxies out for takeoff, ready for the mission! 9) Plane returns to be refitted for future missions The download links are provided below if you want to try it yourself. 6. I found out what can save us! "I literally just saw this on the thread, no editing whatsoever"
  7. I almost always re-enter on the daylight side of Kerbin. It's no fun in the dark.
  8. I tried something like this several months ago... didn't end well. However, I shall try again!
  9. I did this about 10 in game years ago and I have been trying to rescue them ever since. 6 rescues have been conducted, all but one ending in failure. The successful one was just a rover used to take the kerbals to a flat spot. I'm now working on fueling up my (projected) 900t mother ship to bring them back in and preparing to send an SSTO to save them.
  10. You definitely bested my attempt - it took me over forty minutes to climb the VAB, and I used mods!
  11. I'll call it valid, especially since it is only stock. How long did it take?
  12. That's what I do. It works well, but you'll probably need stuts between the girders and the rocket.
  13. I have completed the monopropellant challenge! I designed a plane that traveled 97,603 metres on monopropellant. Here are the screenshots for proof: New challenge: VAB Climber Design a machine that can climb to the top of the VAB without flying. It is suggested to climb up the side. Note: You will almost certainly need mods for this I apologize for the missing/glitched parts in the screenshots Took ~40 minutes. I did this a few weeks ago.
  14. Thanks, The main issue with such a compact system is that it is almost impossible to get to the OKTO2 so that I can fly it properly.
  15. Here is my entry: It is a one kerbal personal return pod. It has onboard reaction wheels and an orbital power module to keep the reaction wheel alive until re-entry. This test was conducted by launching the pod unmanned, rendezvous-ing with a stranded kerbal and returning him to Kerbin. This was done from a 150x149km orbit. I also have a 4-kerbal version that I may upload later.
  16. Can we refuel in LKO? Sounds like an interesting challenge, I'll have to try it sometime.
  17. *looks around suspiciously* I may have stranded Chad on Laythe in one of my saves...
  18. I think this is why the lights on m Minmus base flicker if all of them are on.
  19. I normally just let the debris accumulate. I go out on recovery missions every now and then, but I find them dull. I don't like terminating objects from the Tracking Station, either, because I find that unrealistic.
  20. I'm kinda sentimental about my satellites and stations. I have a really bad station with only two modules and about Tier 2 level tech tree parts, but I leave it up there. It's been up for over a decade IIRC. I'm also a bit too busy to build a replacement station.
  21. If it floats, I'll turn it into a new island off the coast of KSC. Then maybe I'll try to land on it.
  22. When you're working in Unity, watching an object slowly float away and wish you could time warp.
  23. I would say "no" right now, but maybe in a few months, I'd say "yes"
