  1. Wow... I never thought about doing a rover like that. My problem was that I could never figure out how to attach them to a lander to get them to their destination. I had tried variations, including a vertical take-off deployment unmanned "probe" but with limited success. (I'm still trying out how to post pictures here or I would share) Definitely going to have to try some vehicles based on what I've seen! Thanks for the inspiration...
  2. I did the same thing for a while. Between my work schedule, research projects, church obligations, and family obligations, I never get to spend a lot of time on-line, especially to cruise social media (think Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and the forums here at KSP. Only recently have I been able to spend time reading through the forum posts, blogs, and other things the way I would like to have done from the beginning. Only within the last month have I started participating within the various discussions, posting a few blog entries myself, and meeting fellow KSP players. Welcome to the KSP universe and may your Kerbal always land as graceful as he achieved orbit!
  3. Right now, I am building a large space station in orbit. I have several small probes orbiting both moons and one on its way to the inner solar system. I do have a workable space plane, now I want to build one a bit bigger to handle larger payloads.
  4. There are several things that I do, depending on my mood. Sometimes I will look at the forums pages, the pics that some have posted of their own KSP creations, or even the numerous KSP videos on Youtube. I also visit websites such as http://www.janes.com/defence/platforms/air-platforms, http://www.gizmag.com/nasa-innovative-advanced-concepts-2013-phase-i-winners/28431/, or http://www.space.com. I also will watch old sci-fi movies, or television shows.
  5. Just a thought. B9 now offers the possibilities of having large starships, but there are no crew compartments ! Maybe create something that can appear to be a flat part that actually allows for holding crew, like maybe a crew berth, for up to four or five Kerbals? I have a couple of ideas but do not understand how to create the parts or what programs I would need to use. If anyone either wants to take up this project or give me some pointers in how to get started, then I would do it myself and would greatly appreciate it (and would give you credit when I finally make something decent enough to use). What about a control pod or command room, or command bridge that actually looks good on larger starships... Just a couple of ideas
  6. FinalFrontier mod actually awards ribbons to Kerbals who do certain achievements or attain a certain level of experience. You can download it here: http://www.curse.com/ksp-mods/kerbal/221413-final-frontier I do agree that a rank system would be nice. I would also like to see an option to reuse spacecraft and maybe provide insignia for the craft beyond a mission flag.
  7. I would like to make a suggestion for ships. I know that we can use unique mission flags for each ship created, but for our interstellar ships, what about a way to add a ship name? Maybe have a "empty" placeholder that can be used for the ship's name. As the name is changed at the command module, the placeholder will pick up the name and add it to wherever the placeholder part is located. Also, what about the addition of a space plane or flying saucer icon to use on the mission control maps to identify interstellar ships from Kerbin orbit ships? Just a couple of thoughts - thanks for an awesome gaming experience so far!
  8. Although not a graduate student (I am a recovering post-graduate student with degrees and student loans to prove it!), teaching college does take a lot of time outside the classroom. I've been a member of the forum since November 2013 but didn't become active in posting until a little while ago. I, too am looking forward to giving back to the community - eventually.
  9. Thiagobs, Nope, I checked out both links and did not see the original station science lab. If I recall, it had room for three kerbals and was the exact size of the hitch hiker module that fits four kerbals. Thanks anyway, and because of your help, I did find a replacement for what I lost!
  10. And I want to express a big THANK YOU to SpannerMonkey for letting me know that! Wish I had known that back when I first started playing!
  11. Hey, folks - just a quick question... Back when I was first playing KSP, I was dumb and actually took apart the files out of their respective folders and put them in the plugin folder, much like was required for the old SimCity4 game (yeah, who needs to read the FAQs and other documentation, right?). Well, to make a long story short, I was cleaning up and reinstalling the mods the correct way (GameData folder this time!) as per the many forum discussions and readme files said to do (game works a lot better ) I cannot seem to find the original mod that had the hitchhiker container that held four Kerbals AND had the science lab with it (3m part) that was the same height. Anyone know where I can find it? I originally downloaded it from the KSP site when it had the exchange... Thanks!
  12. Ok, I am a newbie to the game and actually have one of each that I regularly play. I actually have more fun in the "sandbox" mode because it is where I design and test the craft I will use in the other two saved game types. It really depends on my mood as to which one I play, but nevertheless, I do have fun. Isn't that the purpose of any game - to have fun and get some enjoyment out of it? Even in career mode, there have been contracts I have ignored simply because it did not appeal to me. The only thing I would suggest is to create a mod that would allow the user to set some personal goals for a sandbox game, to include a "complete by" or "accumulate X amount" items in a checkbox list. Once they are achieved... who knows (just an idea, albeit a stupid one!) With that being said, if there were anything that I would change about all three modes is that I wish there were a "back" button on the craft building screens. There have been times that I have gone in to move or remove a part and end up with the entire wing (or engine/tank assembly) instead of the strut or other small part. A "back" button would allow me to revert - with one click - back to the point before my mouse was misaligned. This would prevent hours of frustration for me (at least).
  13. In response to Raven's post: These were the first two things I learned in KSP and have had a blast with the game, bot with the use of MECJEB and without! I enjoy the thrill of creating a craft and tweaking it to get it to handle better and achieve the goals set (I play science/career and sandbox a lot). Sometimes it takes multiple trials to get exactly what I want, and others, based on the experiences I have already with the game, am able to get the results I want within a couple of tries. Regardless, there is a lot of fun in trial and error. There's nothing like getting into orbit and watching Jeb do his cockpit dance, knowing there is a backup plan to get him down if something should go wrong . Any disastrous mission that ends in Jeb getting back to Kerbin alive becomes a good mission and even can sharpen your reaction skills (I avoid reverting unless absolutely necessary). The one thing I would add that I have not seen anyone else post is patience. It's important to realize that you probably will not get the results you want with the first, second, or maybe tenth launch. It's ok... (as long as Jeb survives! ) If you don't have patience then this game is definitely not for you.
  14. Banned for banning the person before them that used green text.
  15. I would like to see another planetary system... a star with maybe two or three planets orbiting around it. What about vegetation on planets? Having a densely vegetated planet or moon could make it more challenging to land on and would probably require a few survey missions to determine suitable landing zones. Just my two cents...
  16. I am new to this mod and love it. I just have one question, maybe it has been already asked but I cannot find the answer. How can one utilize the "custom" ribbons and set goals for them?
