26 Asteroid Impacts On Earth? SINCE 2000????
TheExplosionist replied to NeoMorph's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Heh? BSE = prion disease of cows CJD/vCJD = prion disease of humans that ate non-organic infected beef or had an infected tissue transfusion It takes anywhere from months to decades for CJD symptoms to develop. -
26 Asteroid Impacts On Earth? SINCE 2000????
TheExplosionist replied to NeoMorph's topic in Science & Spaceflight
How recent is that book? Recent reports indicate up to 12% of dementia cases could be CJD. I'd say it's more common than we'd like to admit. Very scary disease. -
Unreal 3 would be a major improvement. It made use of all the tech available back in 2008. I doubt Unity is anywhere near as sophisticated.

26 Asteroid Impacts On Earth? SINCE 2000????
TheExplosionist replied to NeoMorph's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The earth getting hit by those is like a grain of sand hitting an elephant. If there was a rock the size of Africa on it's way then things might get exciting. -
Unlike in movies or videogames there would be no fires, big explosions or non-Newtonian physics. Space vessels would engage at vast distances beyond visual range using x-ray lasers, missiles and projectile weapons.

So I took an asparagus lander to EVE.
TheExplosionist replied to Majorjim!'s topic in KSP1 Discussion
It's the only 2-man Eve return vehicle in existence. It also has 89 stages, over 3000 parts, takes 5mins to load and tends to explode spontaneously on the launch pad. http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/eve_explorer/ -
The EU has to tow the yank line. I continue to find it highly amusing the yanks have no manned space craft of their own since the space shuttle retired.

Will there ever be cities off of Earth?
TheExplosionist replied to WestAir's topic in Science & Spaceflight
There'll never be any cities on any orbiting bodies in this system. Either the atmospheric pressure is too high or the gravity is too weak. I imagine they'll be mining colonies and space stations though. -
[0.24.x] Stock ReBalance v1.4 | 11/09/14
TheExplosionist replied to stupid_chris's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
It says somewhere nuclear engines are roughly 3x better than H2/O2 and I think that was for steam. Nukes that exhaust H2 should be even better. -
Tips for getting to Moho

Use lot's of 8x symmetry asparagus nukes. -
I don't like the orange tanks. They're ugly.
TheExplosionist replied to RocketBlam's topic in KSP1 Discussion
But they're filled with orange Lucozade. -
Global Warming: Past the point of no return
TheExplosionist replied to Rhidian's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Population control is political suicide and people of Islamic culture or from "istan" countries don't want to know or care. -
Global Warming: Past the point of no return
TheExplosionist replied to Rhidian's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Apart from hydroelectric dams, "renewables" are useless. Unless we burn coal/peat/lignite/fracked gas until the air is so polluted with heavy metals that 99% of people get terminal cancer by age 30, start building nuke plants which is unpopular or wait for fusion despite fewer and fewer people going into physics or engineering, it's inevitable that western living standards will be decreased drastically. -
[0.24.x] Stock ReBalance v1.4 | 11/09/14
TheExplosionist replied to stupid_chris's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Increase all the TWR to 100:1 to 150:1 and 450 ISP for H2/O2 engines, 1200 ISP for nuclear engines. Realism is vital for gameplay. -
So I took an asparagus lander to EVE.
TheExplosionist replied to Majorjim!'s topic in KSP1 Discussion
Using command seats is extremely lame. 2 x Mk1 pods from sea level: -
Engine balance TWR/Isp
TheExplosionist replied to thereaverofdarkness's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Realism is far more important than "balance". This isn't a multiplayer game. -
How much would 64-bit actually matter?
TheExplosionist replied to tstehler1's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Actually there is Windows XP 64-bit. I think it was released in 2006. edit "released on April 25, 2005" -
What do you want to see in .23

0.23 should focus on performance
TheExplosionist replied to Overlord's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The game engine is artificially limited to 1 CPU thread. We shouldn't blame the devs though as building an engine from scratch costs a fortune, especially if it takes advantage of all the latest Haswell AVX instructions, GPU compute, 64-bit and DX11.2.
