  1. Long ago, for a KSP challenge, I built: The Pentagon Series mk II The mk II has just enough V-delta to reach Mun orbit (from the surface of Mun), the 6 wheels give it plenty of traction (and speed ), the pentagon-shaped cabin needs ridiculous impact speeds to be destroyed (Kerbals tend to fall out much sooner though), the "reaction wheels" give it enough torque to correct any driving mishaps, the docking port on the bottom makes attaching to a carrier easy, and last but not least, the 4 parachutes allow for safe landing even in the thin atmosphere of Duna.
  2. Instead of trying to do it purely by subassemblies, simply copy the ship files between VAB and SPH folders (in the save foder)...only disadvantage of this is that whatever controllable craft was first gets to keep it's way of symmetry, so I'd advise to build the lift stage in VAB as a subassembly, build the ATV in SPH, copy the file and then try to stick them together in VAB...just beware of the symmetry
  3. Had a small idea yesterday...bonus mini-challenge anyone?
  4. So, I finally kicked myself into actually proving that I can climb a crater... Originally I intended to speed up only portions of the vid, but due to it being a little too long, I basically warp through the whole thing (although at different rates). Fuel cheat was to keep fuel for orbit launch (video maybe later ) Rover notes: - missing it's "ass" is apparently not a problem - 38° incline - no problem, >30° incline - a problem, 10° DOWNHILL - impossibru!!! (fix your game, SQUAD!) - it "flies"* surprisingly well - turning off the rear wheel pair proved unnecessary, the rover has more then enough reaction torque to compensate * what are you doing (one word verb) when are moving above ground on a sub-orbital trajectory in a vacuum? It can't be flying since there is no air to provide lift...
  5. So, wanted to try and do a video for the crater climb, but I managed to...crater it...and was too lazy to try again. Uploaded the video anyway, since I'm learning to use Vegas Pro 12. Leasons learned: 1) Land in the crater, not drive to it... 2) Do NOT drive into it from the steepest wall available... 3) A 45° incline is probably a little too steep to climb anyway
  6. Like so? The Pentagon series mk2 Weighing 4.5t (4.1t without the crew, 2.1t completely empty), 103 parts, 758 m/s V delta in vacuum (632m/s in Kerbin atmosphere) If you don't mind fixing the wheels, it can Land on Duna with the parachutes alone Known issues - Kerbals apparently don't hold on to the seats very well, so docking with the crew onboard is a bad idea (the jolt from the docking is enough to eject them out and deorbit from a 20km Mun orbit, the same goes for ALL parachutes fully deploying at once (have to be staged, otherwise it shakes them out of the rover) and similarly driving over 20m/s is just asking for it...
