  1. Thanks all for the welcome. I thought I would share this pic of the real rocket I am involved with. I would rather not say exactly who I work for or what my function is but here you go.
  2. I just wanted to say again this mod is so much fun. See below for my latest missions. Sent a Science Sat to Jool that is powered via antimatter collection. I used that to unlock the last science node. Then I set up a ground based antimatter fuel farm. Next built a spaceplane with 2x thermal turbojets, 1x plasma thruster, and an Alcubierre drive. I fueled it up on the runway with my farm and then flew to Eve and back. I flew diagonally across the system and had to do a 10k+ dV change when entering Eve's SOI. It all worked pretty well except for almost overheating on the 5g several minute long burn to get captured by Eve. I only have the small heat sinks for aesthetics but it is worth it.
  3. Thanks! Some of my background helped a lot and some was a bit of a hindrance. I already had a working knowledge of orbital mechanics, Tsiolkovsky rocket equation, mass/DV budgets, etc. So I already new about Hohmann transfer, phasing orbits, efficient staging, and all of the various terminology (periapsis, apoapsis, ascending nodes, etc.). So it was very easy to jump in and head to the Mun, Duna, etc. However, I also know that for the most part in real life you stacked rocket stages vertically because of the aerodynamic implications ... which don't matter in KSP and made most of my early rockets wobbly and prone to unplanned dis-assembly.
  4. I am new to the forum but have been playing for a couple months. My confession is that in my real job I am an aerospace engineer that builds rockets to send to space. However, I milked a slight cold for a few days so I could spend time at home to playing KSP sending virtual rockets into space ... I may have some kind of problem
  5. Don't worry he will be back. He is impossible to kill. I annihilated him with an extra large tank of antimatter that lost its containment (Interstellar Mod). He showed up a couple of missions later ready to go again.
  6. I am new to the forums but have been playing for a little while now. Synchronous orbits are possible in KSP. See here for a table of altitudes. There is no part that I know of that sounds like what you are describing. Maybe it was a fuel line that was somehow part clipped inside of cubic strut ... As far as I know that wouldn't be necessary because I think all of those are capable of fuel transfer on their own. I am not at my main PC so I can't test it right now. but you should be able to at least manually transfer fuel between parts connected via cubic struts.
  7. Fantastic mod! No more adding a maneuver node just to orient myself.
  8. Just wanted to say great mod! I have been playing KSP for awhile and made this account just to say thank you. This has made the game so much more fun. I had unlocked all tech levels on the stock game and had lots of extra science when I installed this mod. So I was able to jump in unlock everything but the last tech node from this mod. I built an anti-matter/science miner with 2x antimatter collectors, 2x large antimatter tanks, science lab, 2x upgraded computer cores, 3.75m nuke/generator, 2x atmosphere scoops and a vista engine. I sent it to Jool with the mission to collect & return antimatter to the Kerbin surface & do some sweet science. Unfortunately I didn't read about all the parts and made some critical errors. First scooping Jool for deuterium was a miserable failure. When I went deep enough to get any flow rate I couldn't get back out again. So after a re-load that plan was abandoned. I also didn't know that you could only reprocess the DUF so many times. By the end on my return trip it would only allow me to reprocess a tiny fraction of the DUF. I also didn't head the warning on the antimatter containers that they would explode when un-powered. I was planning to drop them at the spaceport and use them to refuel an antimatter space plane w/KAS on the ground (which would have exploded anyway since no power on the lander cans) ... but it exploded in space anyway when my nuke ran out when I was almost back to Kerbin ... Pic of pre-exploded ship. Bob is not happy about his impending doom. Anyway, I am going to try again but this time splitting my vehicle in two. A dedicated science station with 9 computer cores (4 upgraded to AI initially) and a dedicated antimatter miner with backup nuke + microwave receiver to prevent annihilating kerbals with antimatter.
