parts [1.10.x] SDHI Service Module System (V4.0.4 / 11 October 2020)
CFIRickM replied to sumghai's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Is this a slab of bacon which I see before me, The end pointed toward my mouth? Come, let me eat thee. I have thee not, and yet I see thee still. Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible To feeling as to eat? or art thou but A bacon of the mind, a false creation, Proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain? I see thee yet, in form as palpable As this which now I draw. Thou marshall'st me the way that I was going; And such a bacon I was to eat. Mine eyes are made the fools o' the other senses, Or else worth all the rest; I see thee still, And on thy folds and dudgeon gouts of fat, Which was not so before. There's no such thing... sometimes Jeb gets these ideas.... -
[0.90] Kerbin Shuttle Orbiter System v4.13
CFIRickM replied to helldiver's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
So I'm minding my own business wandering the grounds of Airventure 2014 (Oshkosh for the purists - http://www.eaa.org/en/airventure) and see the NASA tent. Imagine my surprise with whom I saw there! http://imgur.com/a/rKiIj p.s. - I'm back for testing and plan to put things through their paces... -
[0.90] Kerbin Shuttle Orbiter System v4.13
CFIRickM replied to helldiver's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
All - sorry i've disappeared from KSO testing; work has overwhelmed me the past couple weeks. Sounds like 64-bit testing has been quite the ride. I'm heading to Oshkosh for Airventure tomorrow - and will be back to KSO testing once I return. In the meantime, here's some 45 year anniversary pictures from the Armstrong Museum. I stopped by this week while driving through on business. Enjoy! Rick http://imgur.com/a/nT7O3 -

All - I regret to inform you that today's Super 25 testing wasn't completed... cuz... NASA! Some selected photos are available at: http://imgur.com/a/OeUXR#0 -
Good deal. can't wait to see it!

Really awesome start, tygoo! Can't wait to see it in game. Do you plan to build the "opening" nose cone ala Dragon - or something more like the multi-door stock docking port? I vote for one similar to stock.

And a picture of the NASA + KSO LFO boosters. It's my go-to heavy lifter... asparagus staging w/ the LFOs. -

CFIRickM replied to helldiver's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
That was probably me Capt.Hunt. I use the KSO LFO boosters w/ the NASA parts to build an SLS-like lifter. I don't like the pencil-thin SRBs that come with the NASA pack - and I can cross feed from the LFOs to the main stage for asparagus staging. I'll upload a pic later. -
Okay - more information. I removed real chutes from the same vehicle, launched two of them, and the bounding box is fixed and they docked "normally" the way MechJeb should. Looks like real chutes is the culprit on my system - Mac w/ latest Mavericks OS - 0.23.5 KSP - Latest Mechjeb Dev build - MechJeb2-2.2.1.256 I wonder if it's picking up bounding box information presuming the real chutes are deployed when, in fact, they aren't? Update: I installed the latest and greatest real chutes release and the problem is gone. Bounding boxes are normal size and docking goes off with out a problem.

That's considered taking advantage of all the tools or vehicle capabilities available to you. Autopilot is a great help both in real life and KSP. And this is not intended to start a mechjeb war. I don't participate in those. -

CFIRickM replied to helldiver's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I just tested 2.061 and the SRBs have 0.44 Oxidizer left when the Liquid Fuel runs out to 0.00. That small amount is keeping MechJeb from staging the SRBs. -
[0.90] Kerbin Shuttle Orbiter System v4.13
CFIRickM replied to helldiver's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
For those who're working on getting a >100Km orbit, I recommend practice! Here's a shot from a flight this morning up to my test station (same station depicted in earlier posts). It's orbiting at 150Km. I sent up another shuttle w/ a habitat module and the additional KSO fuel module. Upon arrival, there was *just barely enough* delta-V to return to earth w/o the habitat module. At what altitude should a station be declared operational? Should stations be constructed >100km? What's the payload each KOS should deliver during station construction? What's the payload of an unmanned, automated launch system? You're experiencing the same challenges that NASA worked thru dating back to the 60s before the STS existed. Even the STS and its payload abilities were the result of a "design by committee" approach between NASA, USAF, Congress, etc - and don't forget how budgets impacted it all. I still need to post my station thoughts that I alluded to yesterday... Will do so this weekend. Enjoy KOS everyone - I'm off to the airport for the rest of the day. -

Let me check when I get home. I haven't memorized all the KOS part names so perhaps I'm mistaken on what I used... -

Tangle - this is exactly what I did. Works fine. If you don't dock to deploy the station module, just be careful backing the KOS away from the station module that you carried uphill. Don't ask how I know. -

Interesting Size Comparison. Here're two quick pics of Sumghai's Habitat Module from his Fustek-Inspired Station Modules (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/35043-0-21-FusTek-Station-Parts-Expansion-(R0-03-5a) and the Destiny Module from the community project's ISS mod (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24728-International-construction-ISS-in-Kerbal-orbit). [0.90] Kerbin Shuttle Orbiter System v4.13
CFIRickM replied to helldiver's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Blur? What Blur? Jeb says it's just a little smoke in the cockpit I experimented w/ the SST but ended up re-using a stock-built tug that I put together last Fall. My challenge with the SST is coordinating the visual with the nav ball display. The SST's RCS jets don't visually fire in agreement with the expected visual display (i.e.: let's yaw to the right... the left one in front should fire and the right one in back should fire. Instead both fire on one side). This isn't as big a deal w/o a payload - but I'm consistently spinning when there's a payload and the RCS boom is extended. It's more difficult than the KSO - which I'd rate a 5 - but it could be operator error... -

KSP Station Construction... So many options to consider. I'll post some thoughts on station construction after I get home from work, but in the meantime, a few pics from testing in stock KSP plus KSO plus MechJeb: First module in the station - the power source. 150KM orbit: Finalized "core" Two habitat modules and the solar arrays: Ready for permanent crew: Crew transfer and an emergency return ship
