Naming scheme for your ships! (0.24 edition)
MGCJerry replied to mangekyou-sama's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It looks like a cat walking across the keyboard names my ships... Plot twist, I don't have a cat. -
How did I suddenly get so good at rendevousing?
MGCJerry replied to LostElement's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I used to struggle to get into kerbin orbit due to crashing, I can now rain down rocket parts on KSC from 40K from an unspecified rocket failure... I've been to Mun, one way... havent docked yet, created rescue mission, left kerbin SOI (and returned), etc... I'm still scratching my head on how to use the launch button. -
What do you think the rest of Kerbal society is doing?

Hiding... ... Its dangerous on the surface. -
Is there a song that seems to be a theme for your Kerbals...?
MGCJerry replied to Fizwalker's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My Kerbals? The Benny Hill theme... -
Suicide burn? Oh, you mean just park your rocket nose first into the targeted celestial body and hit as hard as you can? Yup, done that a few times... I usually just give a little throttle to slowly bring my speed down and land wherever as I'm doing my 'landing'. But I've only ever landed on Kerbin & Mun that way so I may have to resort to other techniques elsewhere...

Finally "updated" to .23. Installed FAR. I also pulled off the best spaceplane landing I ever done. I was experimenting and had 3 kerbals onboard. Made it to 51K, and flamed out. (not enough oxidizer for rapier engines). ended up going into a spin, but I "recovered" enough where the spaceplane was falling rear first. turned off SAS/RCS and manually tried to recover the craft. Ended up hitting the ocean at 46m/sec rear first with a few engines on intake air mode, and saving all 3 kerbals. I'm done with KSP for the night!

Thanks for the replies everyone. After reading the replies here, I've decided to rebuild it entirely. My next approach is to build a lander/CM/crane type thing with the rover stowed below it. Possibly the start of a future station on the moon. I just need to build some prototypes to test with. Anyway, here are the screenshots of the rover & rocket. The rover will be rebuilt, and the rocket will be tweaked a bit. Craft: Rocket "MunLander" Mass: 810t Parts: 367 ÃŽâ€v: 7758 (according to engineer) Craft: "Cart" Mass: 2.65t Parts: 48 ÃŽâ€v: 592 (according to engineer)

I have a rocket, a bit large, but I like it a lot. I've also built a rover I'd love to send to Mun using my favorite rocket/lander combo. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to combine the 2. I've tried saving the rocket as a subassembly, but when i load it in when I have the rover first, I cannot attach the rover to the rocket. Also, I cannot save the rover as a subassembly. The rocket was originally manned, but I want to send a rover using an unmanned module, drop off the rover and keep this other lander there so I can bring my 3 guys back... Its almost looking like I will have to rebuild the rover while I have the rocket loaded. Is there another way of doing this? Edit: Tried editing the topic to be more descriptive.

I havent managed to need to use escape towers yet. I have gotten pretty good at aborting failed launches by ditching the rocket and saving my little guys. I've power landed more landers on Kerbin than anywhere else so far. Even after all that, I still typically revert to VAB.

.... I bet that made a spectacular mess! What was the mass on that beast?

How to find out how much RAM KSP uses?
MGCJerry replied to dreadwave21's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
As mentioned above... Anyway, heres mine at the loading screen. Achievements Mod & Engineer. -
Another mun landing.... This time I landed the top 3 guys on the mun... Had a mishap with staging that caused me to lose 2 of my lander fuel tanks so now I don't have enough fuel to get off mun. I can probably establish an orbit with 640 dV remaining. according to Engineer. Built a rover too, and I'm going to see if i can shoot it to the moon using the same rocket. I never have launched a rover so I'll see what I can do with it...

I havent followed the incidents or whatever due to work and whatnot, but I just had to quote this. The money spent is not because I want to play the game, well maybe some, but more that I believe in the product and want to see it happen. Absolutely! To be perfectly honest, this is the most polished alpha game ive seen in awhile. Ive played finished games that were more buggy and limited than KSP is.

You Will Not Go To Space Today - Post your fails here!
MGCJerry replied to Mastodon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Everything today was a complete and utter failure. The only thing that worked right was that the fuel was flammable... -
Big first accomplishment for me. I landed on the Mun finally... But I dont have enough juice to get him back home. Looks like im building a unmanned probe to get him back, hopefully... Also during Bob's excitement, he broke the solar panels. Just cant find good help anymore.

Totally screwed up in KSP today... Crashed into Mun 3 times (one I ran out of fuel, 2nd one i just totally screwed up and on the 3rd attempt, I didn't lock the stage, and ditched my lander... Oops) Reverted twice because I didn't have a quicksave... We need a Kerbal headdesk, or facepalm smiley.

DeltaV Without Tears!! NEED TESTERS! NEED Excel 2010
MGCJerry replied to Goosexi's topic in KSP1 Discussion
A suggestion would be to ditch the protection, or give us the password to unlock the file. Without being able to enter data, its ultimately useless. -

I call it a Jeb. "Jeb" verb: To screw up, big time... "Wow, I just pulled a total Jeb and mounted rocket engines sideways!" -
Orbiting Kerbin... Ignore the missed moon shot, its only Bill.

Has anyone created a Kerbal name generator?
MGCJerry replied to SuperWeegee4000's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I just seen this topic when looking up something else... Here's a quick 10 minute script based on the information provided above. Now we have 2 online Kerbal name generators. <?php $first = array('Ad', 'Al', 'Ald', 'An', 'Bar', 'Bart', 'Bil', 'Billy-Bob', 'Bob', 'Bur', 'Cal', 'Cam', 'Chad', 'Cor', 'Dan', 'Der', 'Des', 'Dil', 'Do', 'Don', 'Dood', 'Dud', 'Dun', 'Ed', 'El', 'En', 'Er', 'Fer', 'Fred', 'Gene', 'Geof', 'Ger', 'Gil', 'Greg', 'Gus', 'Had', 'Hal', 'Han', 'Har', 'Hen', 'Her', 'Hud', 'Jed', 'Jen', 'Jer', 'Joe', 'John', 'Jon', 'Jor', 'Kel', 'Ken', 'Ker', 'Kir', 'Lan', 'Lem', 'Len', 'Lo', 'Lod', 'Lu', 'Lud', 'Mac', 'Mal', 'Mat', 'Mel', 'Mer', 'Mil', 'Mit', 'Mun', 'Ned', 'Neil', 'Nel', 'New', 'Ob', 'Or', 'Pat', 'Phil', 'Ray', 'Rib', 'Rich', 'Ro', 'Rod', 'Ron', 'Sam', 'Sean', 'See', 'Shel', 'Shep', 'Sher', 'Sid', 'Sig', 'Son', 'Thom', 'Thomp', 'Tom', 'Wehr', 'Wil'); $second = array('ald', 'bal', 'bald', 'bart', 'bas', 'berry', 'bert', 'bin', 'ble', 'bles', 'bo', 'bree', 'brett', 'bro', 'bur', 'burry', 'bus', 'by', 'cal', 'can', 'cas', 'cott', 'dan', 'das', 'den', 'din', 'do', 'don', 'dorf', 'dos', 'dous', 'dred', 'drin', 'dun', 'ely', 'emone', 'emy', 'eny', 'fal', 'fel', 'fen', 'field', 'ford', 'fred', 'frey', 'frey', 'frid', 'frod', 'fry', 'furt', 'gan', 'gard', 'gas', 'gee', 'gel', 'ger', 'gun', 'hat', 'ing', 'ke', 'kin', 'lan', 'las', 'ler', 'ley', 'lie', 'lin', 'lin', 'lo', 'lock', 'long', 'lorf', 'ly', 'mal', 'man', 'min', 'ming', 'mon', 'more', 'mund', 'my', 'nand', 'nard', 'ner', 'ney', 'nie', 'ny', 'oly', 'ory', 'rey', 'rick', 'rie', 'righ', 'rim', 'rod', 'ry', 'sby', 'sel', 'sen', 'sey', 'ski', 'son', 'sted', 'ster', 'sy', 'ton', 'top', 'trey', 'van', 'vey', 'vin', 'vis', 'well', 'wig', 'win', 'wise', 'zer', 'zon', 'zor'); if (is_numeric($_GET['names'])) { $r = $_GET['names']-1; } else { $r = "1"; } for ($x=0; $x<=$r; $x++) { $pre = array_rand($first,1); $suf = array_rand($second,1); echo $first[$pre]."".$second[$suf]." Kerman<br>"; } ?> Save as whatever and place on a server with PHP. It will display 1 name. You can specify how many names you want by adding "?names=30" to the end of the filename such as http://example.com/namegen?names=30 (will create 30 names) -

I was working on a rocket and wanted to change something real quick, and when i placed my other stage back onto the rocket, it did the lockup & symmetry thing... I didnt think of getting a screenshot of it, but I did say the heck with it and tried launching it. More like detonating it. 876 parts. Here are the remains on the launchpad. You will not be going to space today, or going home... Sorry Jeb! -
Between last night, and a little bit today I managed to get a total of 2 orbits. The first one was terrible, and luckily it was only a probe so no big deal. The 2nd one I Jeb went up, and he has what I would call an good circular orbit around Kerbin (800k). Going to try to launch a few more orbits with kerbals and more probes. Jeb has a 1/16 of liquid fuel left, and a whole solid booster to return to Kerbin, so I should be able to get him back fairly easy (famous last words). Jeb was launched up using the rocket in the screenshot above. Addiction? I can stop any time I want *twitch* *twitch*

Took lots of explosions and fails and experimenting to get that rocket, even if it wobbles a bit... but, it can definitely reach orbit, and leave poor kerbals drifting into distant space. Taking one for the team, I love these guys! Maybe one day I'll try to get them back with a rescue mission but that will have to wait because I still cant get a stable orbit. I'm too much of an idiot... One day, I will get an orbit... then one day I will land on Mun... Then maybe one day, rescue all the poor kerbals that are drifting through space (some are EVA.. happens).

After reading about KSP elsewhere on the 'net, I decided to check it out and downloaded the demo. Lots of fun even if I'm not a rocket scientist... Launched a lot of stuff, but no orbits yet. A whole lot of building, piloting and crashing by the seat of my pants. Amazing how tough these guys are. I let him EVA out of this rocket, and watched him bounce to the ground. Tis only a scratch! Edited With all the fun I've been having today with the demo, I went ahead and bought the game.
