Changes to aero/SSTOs from .90 have left me broke in career mode
Pecan replied to KerikBalm's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Try the one in the OP here - http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/119393-I-ll-tell-you-what-rockets-do-fly-well-now -
Yes radio/microwaves/lasers/visible-light are just different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum and travel at the speed of, well, light. Distance delays signals of any power exactly the same amount because it's just the time it takes for the signal to physically travel between the transmitter and receiver. In a similar* way, shouting may be easier to hear but it's still restricted to the local speed of sound. As far as I know RT is the only mod that implements this in KSP and realistically on every ship you'd want a pilot or computer/autopilot on-board (so not subject to delay) controlling any but the grossest manoeuvres. *Grin* to see what it's like trying to remote-control a probe that is light-seconds away (never mind out at distant planets) simply play your favourite online action-game with the worst lag and weakest wifi you can manage. Ping times under 1s are too cushy for this 8-p [* Only 'similar' because sound propogates through some medium, usually the air. In space no-one can hear you scream (because there's no atmosphere for the sound to pass to them through) but they can watch you doing it (because light doesn't need one)]

Changes to aero/SSTOs from .90 have left me broke in career mode

I don't understand what your point is. As far as I can see you're complaining that you've wasted a lot of money in inefficient vehicles because you made them expensive spaceplanes instead of cheaper Single Stage rockets and then blew a fuse by not bothering with separate spaceborne payloads after you had got To Orbit. Are you just joking that someone at KSC should have fired you before you bankrupted the place? -
Think that one through and report back, you not Kerbin-native specimen ^^ (Frame of reference issue, like N.American companies arranging merchandising deals that more or less exclude 90% of the worlds' population and more than half of their own customers - not that that would ever happen though ^^)

Range is not an issue in space. Power is an issue but Voyager's transmitter is just 20W and signalling from beyond (or on the edge of) the solar system. Arrange things that way though and you need BIG receiver-dishes. Certainly sending a louder, clearer message in the first place makes things better but it isn't a requirement.

Any KSP 1.0/1.02 shuttle construction tutorials?
Pecan replied to tjsnh's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The main thing that has remained true is that shuttle designs are hard to make, very hard to fly and easily out-performed by other approaches. Better to make a SSTO - vertical launch or spaceplane - unless your sole objective is appearance. -
Dumb Ques - How To Update
Pecan replied to HowieWowie's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/111114-A-Complete-Beginner-s-Guide-Induction-To-Construction Launcher.exe is the programme that checks-for and applies updates, for people who find replacing one download with another too complicated. Steam will push the same thing, for those that are using it, which is usually too aggressive an option as updates aren't under your control any more. -
(Off the top of my head so quite possibly wrong): The right planetary alignment for the Voyager probes only comes around every 175 (Earth) years or so. It's often more when you can go rather than the time it takes to get there.

This the FAR thread.

Graphic setting and what they means?
Pecan replied to Sirine's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The wiki is more up to date than this, I think, and I updated it further in my 'Induction To Construction' tutorial. Those are both still 0.90 as far as I know; real life can't spare me for KSP at the moment. -
In the short term I wouldn't expect breaks but longer-term (KSP 2.0) you wouldn't expect any game to maintain saves indefinitely. After all, that's one of the main reasons for calling a new release a whole new version.
-
Or just, you know, "I had this difficulty AND found the solution, maybe it will help someone else too". Don't knock yourself, there's nothing wrong with your post :-)

Welcome. When you get a new computer can I have your old one, it's probably still better than mine ^^. If you have bought KSP you have bought KSP, not just version 0.90. The current version is the real, not-beta-any-more-honest, 1.0.2 (unless there's been another bug-fix patch since I last looked). It's a lot more realistic and free to update. Like you, I tried the demo (mostly to see if it would even run on this old machine) and was so awestruck at that I had no hesitation in reaching for my wallet. It was a good investment and only destroyed the rest the of my life for a little over a year *grin*

Welcome. The official release has changed almost everything in the game and I'm not aware of any guides that have been updated yet; apart from the in-game tutorials. The Drawing Board (link in signature) is the best place to check what's available. General orbital mechanics, planetary transfers and similar space stuff are unaffected, except for recommendations about which parts/engines to use. You may find my earlier (0.90) guides still useful, although don't expect the ships themselves to fly as advertised. Installtion, configuration, settings and the game interface itself - http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/111114-A-Complete-Beginner-s-Guide-Induction-To-Construction Vehicle (mainly rocket) design from rover to spacestations - http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/79658-Exploring-The-System-A-design-tutorial-campaign-0-90-Final

Other commitments have meant I've hardly had any time for KSP 1.0 (or 1.0.1) and am only just able to sit down with 1.0.2. Congratulations to everyone, especially on getting updates out so quickly. Squad and all the volunteers have done a brilliant job and anyone who knows anything about making anything, not just software, will accept that mistakes will be made and things missed out. The construction industry often uses the term 'snagging' for all the big, solid, countable errors and ommissions, in software we call it 'bugfixing' and it can be an awful lot harder to find the roots of the problems. It was easy to see the danger in adding and changing so many features for the final release but also understandable that Squad couldn't resist it on their first project. Next time - and we all hope there is a next - stay cautious. (And please consider information and publicity apart from awful, useless, bandwidth-eating videos. We're not all TV addicts, sometimes a thousand words is worth a lot more than a half-hour disaster movie).

A Complete-Beginner's Guide - Induction To Construction
Pecan replied to Pecan's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Version 1.0 update started and OP edited. As expected and noted, version 1.0 is looking pretty full of bugs so I'm expecting a patched version sooner rather than later. Which means, probably before I can get this updated, so I'll have to start again. *Sigh* Sisyphus had it easy. -
Working through KSP carefully, right from the beginning, one step at a time. so far lasted less than 15 minutes, 5 bugs/features, before total lockout - http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/entries/3475-Version-1-0-Bugs?bt=8969

Years ago I put a notice on the company board: "Don't take it out on your computer, throw one of mine out of the window" Part of my job at the time was conducting acceptance tests on 'ruggedised' military computers and one of those was a 2m drop onto concrete (aka; thrown out of my office window). 1 in 10 of every new batch got the treatment, whether they wanted it or not ... ... Oh, and people soon learnt not to park their cars beneath my office!

Pecans and pistachios are only (a) little nuts.
-
Really? Ok - "Induction To Construction" is a complete-beginner's guide, that's 46 pages long. "Exploring The System" is 90 pages of vehicle (mainly rocket) designs for missions from a starter rover to manned interplanetary, spacestations and landers. The Drawing Board (link also in signature) categorises the many brilliant tutorials written by everyone else as well.
-
1.0 will be released sometime after this thread is locked.
-
what partnerships would you like KSP/SQUAD to make?
Pecan replied to Dimetime35c's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Looney Tunes. I want Bugs Bunny flying my rockets (Martian in pursuit). -
"Exploring The System" will tell you it takes more than 6,600m/s each way (unless you are getting gravity assists. The really big burn, as you've discovered, is for slowing down into a Moho orbit as you have 'fallen' all the way from a Kerbin altitude around the sun and are going much faster than the planet. For the same reason, it helps to start your injection burn early and hard unless you have a decent TWR on arrival.
