@Boristus : Inspired by Avengers ? Looks great ! @EndOfTheEarth : That looks... interesting. Is it balanced enough to roll everywhere without capsizing or engines getting ripped off ?

. Allright ! I finally finished the space station I was working on for the last few weeks. Has Room for 32 kerbals if the need should ever arise ! Not extravagant, but contains lots of each fuel types, and today we had a nice view of Kerban and the Moon in between the solar panels. And here from the other side. Better illumination and we can see the cross-section in the middle After that I worked on a Skylab look-alike. And finally with the service capsule docked to it (had to send my 3 brave astronauts to do science in there afterall ). (Technically I built this in sandbox, but with a Graviolli detector you could map every biomes low/high... which I intend to do in a career at some point, my bet is when we get all the new biomes) This was very satisfying to build the station piece by piece and finish it. But even such a modest thing was starting to lag on my beast of a computer. Can't wait for unity5 or whatever. I guess next is either a new science game, or refining my saved ship designs and launchers. Getting better at the game and feel the need to clean-up after myself

Anyone else not really care for the career stuff?
Francois424 replied to sedativechunk's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I love the science mode, and almost exclusively play that. I have a game that has been running since science came up and is always auto-updated with the new features... But plain science is enough for me. When the new biomes comes around, I might have an even greater time doing it. IMHO, contacts needs to be more RL inspired, and prolly will be as they get polished. But stuff like : Orbit around Saturn(yeah just using RL analogues here), drop a lander on Titan, do atmospheric science and surface science as the probe falls down. Or get a plane into orbit with 12 kerbals with a total vehicle cost (all stages) of < 100k. Didn't get into checking the administration building, but from what I am reading it needs balance before it is ready. Anyways, I'm more in it for the science gains than the other 2. -
What would you want in the next update (0.90)?
Francois424 replied to EvilotionCR2's topic in KSP1 Discussion
1. Stock Kerbal Engineer -- the only mod which I feel is an absolute must. Other worthy mention (mod/parts) that I always add for my play style, which I wouldn't mind stock : - B9 "truck cockpit" (M27 ?) -- only B9 part I use, or almost. - BoulderCo's Clouds - Visual enhancements (oddly I prefer an older version, and I removed the city lights) - Kommit Nucleonics (for the 4 new nuclear engines, ideal for part reduction as the big one = 4 regular LV-N engine, and well balanced) - Kosmos for the solar panels - Near future tech for the solar panels - Surface Lights - and "ion hybrid electric pack" for the nice "future ion parts", and 5k xenon tanks (I always unlock these when my science tree is complete, and not before, at least in career) 2. (not gonna happen... but) Custom fuel tank parts. 1- pick shape (say spherical), 2- pick size (Say extra large, or like 10k of resource) 3- pick texture (say orange tank's), 4- Pick color (say forest green), 5- pick what it holds (say Xenon). --> You now have a huge, green, spherical fuel tank for that interplanetary Ion ship, which is 10k xenon, for ONE piece. That is even better than welding. Put them in a new "custom" tab, and you don't HAVE to use that feature, newbies won't. But for others it's incredibly interesting ! 3. (not possible yet) Unity version that allows 1k+ part station + visiting supership without any lag (except what your computer cannot handle. I love the game as it is already, but these 3 things would make it even better for me. -
for what is the ion thruster?
Francois424 replied to JtPB's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The problem with Ion Engines aren't so much their ISP, but rather the EXTREME tedium of using them in-game without falling asleep in the process. 2 units of thrust just is not cutting it. Even a thrust of 5 is annoyingly slow. Obviously, as Wallace said, if you have a really tiny craft, no biggies. But if you want to do science bays, goo containers, and a mobile lab ? yeah, forget it. IMHO minimum tolerable thrust is 20 to keep the fun factor going in the game. The Basic Ion has to little use as it is. That being said, I did toy with modding stock partsback in .23, Ion are really fun with a thrust of 60 (if only huge electricity eater, makes for good build challenges), and so is the 1000 thrust Nuclear engine. A THR60 ion-engine makes for really fun small planes, good trip speed to Duna and even Jool, very good planetary rovers, etc... -
0.25 Extremely Low Quality Textures
Francois424 replied to sysigy's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Noticed that as well, It's easy to notice on the largest stack decoupler and the Largest Kerbodyne tanks. -
Hey Kommitz, I've been using these for a long time now, still do. One thing poped in .25 tho, the 280 engine has a white texture. So far it is the only piece that does it. Maybe it's an easy fix, but I wouldn't know. Let me (us) know if/when it's fixed (or anyone for that matter if you manage to fix it). Nevermind it fixed it on it's own. must've been a .25 thingie. Good work on this mod and thanks for keeping it updated! Edit2: and now the problem is back... only piece doing it is the 280 engine. No Idea man. Would appreciate if you have time that you give it a look as it is most likely something minor. Thanks

My space station is Near completion. Only missing the last module (and maybe an antenna piece). Oh and I finally cured my ship that was attracting the Kraken like crazy. In the "IonHybElec_Pack", the 2500 engine have radial attachment nodes to put stuff on... DON'T-USE-THEM !!! ( Fixed it for me. ) Also reproduced the Skylab, and experimented with an Ion rover. Images coming when station finished, which should be this Sunday or thereabouts.

What is purpose of Mobile processing lab
Francois424 replied to Pawelk198604's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I made a munar science truck named "Eureka" with the mobile lab. When I finally sent Jeb to pick it up after much roving, I had quite a lot of science points, let me put it this way. Obviously if you don't like rover, or roving for that matter, this is not for you -
Q: Have you ever achieved a stable orbit around Kerbin?(2 points) Yes Q: Have you ever landed and returned from the Mun?(4 points) Yes Q: Have you ever landed and returned from Minmus?(4 points) Yes Q: On how many objects outside the Kerbin system(which includes Kerbin, the Mun and Minmus) have you landed on(doesn't have to be a return mission)(2 points per object, or 24 if you've landed on all) Eve, Duna, Ike, Dres, Laythe, Bop -- 6. Q: Have you ever successfully docked?(10 points) Yes Q: Have you ever intercepted an asteroid?(16 points) No Optional question 1(if you use mods): How many of the following difficulty enhancing mods: TAC life support, Remote Tech, Deadly Reentry, FAR, RSS; have you used at the same time in a save?(4 points per mod) None of these, merely atmospheric looks, clouds, more parts, and Engineer(it needs to be in stock O.o) Optional question 2(if you don't use mods): Do you rarely(in less than half of your career saves) use reverts/reloads? If only your revertless/reloadless worlds were counted, would the amount of 'yes' answers to the above questions be roughly the same?(+0.25 points for every 'yes' answer to the above questions that would remain the same, not including optional question 1) I revert all the time... Q: On which of the following objects outside the Kerbin system have you done successful return missions: Duna(2.5 points), Ike(2.5 points), Dres(5 points), Moho(5 points), Gilly(5 points), Laythe(10 points), Vall(10 points), Bop(10 points), Pol(10 points), Tylo(15 points), Eeloo(15 points), Eve(30 points) Duna, Dres, Bop 43.5/20 = 2,175 Barely cutting into the "Not a newbie" category. thank god I started docking 3 weeks ago =)

I like the fact you can max-out the tree in one or 2 systems... It adds replayability. In one game I went Jool, in my latest game I went mun/minmus. In the future I might spend it all at Duna, or Eve. Or any other planets added. My 2 cents.
-
I see. You are right about some of them being aesthetic, other are merely variant on existing engine type. I guess I'm just tired of sorting thru mods to find the ONE piece I am looking for, only for it to cause bugs that never let go (thankfully did not happen often). Stock part have the advantage of being 100% compatible and auto-updated each update. Thanks for the answer.

Today I wanted to suggest something (a new part), so I go to the suggestion forum and read the mod posts first... can't suggest parts apparently, with links to mods. I can understand that keeping the forum clean is important, but mods can stop being supported and parts could stop working at any given point in time (or create lots of Kraken attacks, lag, etc). It has happened to me yesterday. So I am a bit biased against mods right now, having lost many hours being eaten by the kraken. So if we can't suggest parts, how am I, as a customer, supposed to let you (squad) know what I would need to make my game experience better ? This isn't a complain but a genuine question. I really want to know. Thank you for your time, and loving the game lots so far !
-
In 0.24.x (32 bits) it seems to be hit and miss. I made my first grand tour ship with the 2500 engine and everything went fine. Then I made a long range, heavy tug... The kraken keeps eating it. Happened 15 times today in under 4h time. Then I switched out the 2500 engine for regular old nuclear + fuel tank, and it wasn't attacked by the kraken yet (after 5 hours). Might just be me, and it's a shame either way... I love these engines. Ill do more testing and report back when I can.
-
A space bus to bring about 16 kerbals (excluding the pilots) in one go to my Orbital Station. Then possibly a self-sufficient, small Kethane rig full of parachutes to drop on Duna in prevision of a Base there.
-
Managed to finish up to 3/4 of my station... Sounds boring but let's say I had an "interesting" day. The Kraken was in my backyard today, and I kept having to reload and reload and re-start KSP. Took nearly 5h to do something that usually takes 1 or 1h30. Never had any problem with the ship it was attacking either. Had to come back from last module assembly with half the ship destroyed, no solar panels (except 4 basic small ones), and only about 800 rcs. Barely made it back home. I can now say I've survived my Apollo 13 moment in KSP ! ( Looks like it was some part-clipping in my design that was causing it, but still debugging that one out ) Edit: Nope, no idea why that ship-line keeps blowing-up when sent in space. I guess "IonHybElec_Pack" mod is unstable in 0.24.x; as this is the only ship with parts of it and the only one blowing up. I guess it's back to nuclear engines then.

Voted Duna, tho almost voted Jool (the moons aren't planets imho, and Jool's just so cool and has a lot to offer). Ultimately Duna offered some nice possibilities early on... Now that I am fairly competent at docking and even building my space station, might spend a lot more time at Jool Tho If I would have to establish a Kerbal base somewhere, Duna would be my first pick. Like I said, I would've voted for both if it were possible... since not, Duna's my pick !

Bill and Jeb are in my Orbital Ion ship and assemble my new station piece by piece. Bob is just back from testing my new very small lander that has all of the science instrument and 3.6 Dv without extra "Tylo" fuel tanks. Bill and Jeb are busy for a while. Bob is next scheduled to test a Large tanker craft to see if it can head to Jool and still have enough for refueling the station and head home. Since the tanker nor it's launcher are really tested, Bob will have to test pilot it... sorry Jeb.

this drawing should be in a building somewhere at KSP center

You cannot charge it at full price just yet... that being said, I feel I've a couple times my money's worth of fun in the game. It's been a while since we got such and open-ended and fun game to play. If all the planets had as much biomes as Kerban or Moon, t would create tremendous replayability if only for the science part of the game (say one game doing moon/minmus, another doing Eve/gilly, another at Jool, etc). The only game I've put more hours in is Age of Wonder II - Shadow Magic, and that's mainly because of the scenario/unit editor. If KSP had a "scenario" (or planetary) editor, man we'd be in business. Well worth every penny so far, and will be worth much more later imho.

Agreed with Overfloater, this was delicious. This is one of these videos I wish I could rate up more than once. How did you get Venus tho... is that the real system mod or something ? At any rate, this was excellent (music is not obnoxious, and very fitting), lots of attention to details (screen shaking, pressure sounds... wow). Color me extremely impressed.

Docked another module to my "Experimental Pol/Uranus Station" being built in very high Kerbin orbit (between Mun/Minmus' Orbits). So far so good. Building it slow but in 2-3 weeks should be done and ready for a picture. Then will need to build another one in between Pol and Bop near Jool. By then, hopefully we'll have a Uranus Analogue to explore in KSP (wishful thinking, but that's what I'm training for) Also, I Brought up the debug menu to determine why my balka solar wings where blowing up EACH TIME I return to Kerban into a 100k orbit. Absolutely no mention of any problem whatsoever... and the panels blew-up... again. I really do not know what the deal is with these, but so far my station was spared the same fate (admittingly doesn't orbit close at all). Annoying tho, so much for my re-usable Ion ship.
-
What are those engines and their particle effect ? Looks amazing.
-
Connected 2 more modules (big modules) on my Experimental Pol Station (which for testing sits at ~30'000'000 from Kerban). 3 done, 6 to go. I'm really learning a lot from making my 1st station... Including how to dock properly. Parallel docking was the biggest challenge yet. But damn is the experience satisfying ! Also, I am having problems with the huge solar panels from the Kosmos pack when used on my ion ship (Balka solar wings). When I return to Kerban after the missions, the panels blow up every... single... time. Might have to look their stats up to see if there is anything to fix (F3 didn't reveal any failures of any kind). Very odd.

Played a bit more 64 bits in a science game... did about 180 science from multiple Kerban biomes and kerban orbits. Is it just me or The Kerbonauts faces animation a laggy in 64bits ? at any rate, almost unlocked the fuel lines then off to minmus to really unlock the tree.
