    The Duna X Challenge

    Introduction:

    Space K has been thinking about colonising Duna (with atleast 2 Kerbals). But they don't know how to!

    The president of Kerbin has announced that the first to colonise another planet will get Minmus for all their dessert needs!

    No time to waste you screamed loudly to your own PC, you drove to the KSC on the way there you downloaded all the mods you needed and started building! (Don't use cheaty mods and yes, you know what I mean)

    Free Minmus dessert is the best kind of dessert.

    What does it entail?

    Create a Kerbal colony on Duna.

    Be creative! You can do anything you want!

    Examples:

    -Rovers

    -Satellite network

    -Planes

    How will I be rated?

    How creative is your colony?

    Are the rockets realistic? (Not like the typical 0.19 space station rockets with like 10 poles with docking ports dangling on the side)

    How big is your colony?

    Everybody can rate eachothers colony (Please do this on a scale from 1 to 16,7)

    I was going to land it on Laythe but after some quick calculations I came to the conclusion I would need 2.01 times the mass of my dry mass as wet mass with Isp = 800s

    Which would mean about 75 Tanks I used in my upperstage

    I also calculated it with Xenon tanks and I would need 500 of the 1,25m kind.

    Maybe I'll get some mod with those nice engines of 20000s Isp in vacuum!

    Points I'd get: 1639.38281*1*128.83682=211213 Points.

  3. The klaw has a limitation : how to get past the atmosphere.

    Tourists can't EVA, but I think you can "transfert" them. So :

    - Create a ship with empty seats, designed for reentry.

    - Add a klaw (detachable)

    - catch the brocken ship

    - transfert the tourists to empty seats

    - detach claw

    - return Kerbin.

    Sounds easy,but I bet not.

    I'm doing this exact thing right now, i'm going to land right now!!!

    You got yourself in pretty messy situation. I would flip the switch on the tracking station and put my suit up for press conference.

    Official report:

    Rocket was hit by class-A asteroid. NOTHING could be done to save those poor souls. Conpansation to families will be paid from contracted fees.

    Will try to test if claw indeed can transfer crew. Would be strange if it could.

    You can transfer them! Thanks for all the great help guys!!! (and the occasional girl here)

  4. I have landed a craft next to it already, but then I realised I couldn't EVA them.

    I have already saved the pilots in the craft (Jeb and Val) but I couldn't transfer my tourists to the craft. Now the wreckage is like a totem pole for my Minmus base ;-;

    I guess the Klaw is gonna be my best bet... I'll keep you guys updated with the state of my lovely tourists :'-(

  5. While I'm not playing strictly stock anymore, I did design and successfully use this reusable launcher in stock before adding the mods:

    The payload fraction is pretty terrible (it lifts at most 9 tonnes to orbit, without much room for error when you consider the deorbit burn), but it works. Interesting behavior I discovered: if the airbrakes (used to survive reentry) are not inside the fairing, the rocket is very unstable :D

    May I ask you what mod you are using for the: Delta-V, Mass, Thrust-to-Mass Ratio and the Resources?

  6. So yesterday I launched a rocket to the Mün and Minmus for the Tourists, but I kind of accidentally let the rocket crash into the surface of Minmus.

    Now they are lying there in their capsules unable to change craft, no docking ports.

    Is there any way I can transfer them to another vessel?

    Or do I have to make a rocket with the Astroid grabber on it to grab them and fly back?

    I hope for a fast answer fellow goodhearted tourist savers!

  7. Hello everybody,

    I just thought about a challenge, here it is!

    I hope you guys like it!

    Story:

    The scientists at KSC saw abnormal seismic activity in the Jool system on the moon Bop.

    They requested that the rocket guys would send a manned crew to it to investigate what was going on there.

    So Jebediah called his friends Bill and Bob to build a rocket that would go to Bop, land at the coordinates, and report what was going on.

    Challenge (Optional):

    Build a rocket that can reach Bop with 3 crew (Doesn't have to be Jebediah, Bill and Bob but, if you can definetily do it!).

    Go to Bop.

    Story:

    It is the Kraken, it is coming back to life!

    We have to somehow stop it!

    All the Kerbals at KSC are panicing.

    Then they here Jebediah say trough the radio: "Don't panic you stupid! Build a prison and imprison him. We will keep him busy for now!"

    The REAL Challenge

    Build a prison. This can build out of different buildings. Doesn't have to be a gigant cube of structural panels.

    Send it to Bop. Make sure the Kraken doesn't escape.

    Rules:

    Do what the Challenge says.

    No use of Hyperedit, debugwindow. This means NO HAXORING!

    All mods that aren't really cheaty like Hyperedit or mods that add fueltanks, engines & and that kind of parts aren't allowed. (Mechjeb & Flight Engineer are allowed.)

    Make a screenshot every now and then for proof.

    Have fun! (You better have otherwise i'll be sad :()

    Scoring:

    You can get a maximum of 110 points: 10 for the Optional Challenge and 100 for the real challenge.

    Completion: 10

    Real Challenge

    Defense : 80

    This contians: How many usefull building/turrets, affectiveness of buildings.

    Style/ the Swagger : 20

    This contains: Are you buildings realistic, do they look nice.

    I'll decide how many points you will get.
