I just saw @Matt Lowne's video on landing a single-launch Dres Canyon base, and it got me thinking about new spots for my second surface base there. Can someone please send me the coordinates for the Dres canyon/s. I would also like a canyon landing spot that: Has a resource concentration of 5% or higher (my drills won't work at 2.5%, but I just want to be safe) Adequate landing space, especially for rovers/landing pods. It's kind of hard to tell what spots are canyons on Dres map view, and I don't want to risk getting too low if I decide to do a recon orbit (which can be very difficult to plan and time, not to mention costly). If anybody has some coordinates of the Dres Canyon/s, that'd be awesome. If you recommend NOT going in there, please send me the coordinates anyway so I know which spots to avoid - I'll put up a "DO NOT GO HERE" or "HAZARDOUS" waypoint.

Thanks for stopping by to check out the Dres Love missions ... This is my answer to the "Dres Awareness, Show Your Support" challenge started by SpaceplaneAddict In addition to this, I started a challenge based on one of the many objectives I set myself to do in this mega-mission which is to land a probe or plant a flag in each of the 42 known craters on Dres (although the challenge I came up with lets you choose which celestial body) ... The Crater Cartographer Challenge The story so far ...................... 10th November 2015 at 13:44. In order to achieve one last mega mission as the last thing I do in 1.0.4, I have decided to send some seriously overbuilt monstrosities to Dres to show my support ... Not a single mod used My first behemoth comes in at 2558.3 tons and 1103 parts sitting on the launch pad. I now present to you for your approval, the Dres Love MK1 launch to LKO --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10th November 2015 at 17:39. So I adapted another monstrosity and launched it to LKO about 7 minutes behind the Dres Love MK1 I present to you the Dres Love MK2 ... 2288.1 tons with 983 parts My intention is to launch another behemoth just behind the MK2 and then enact refueling missions to each of the beasts before sending them in a convoy to Dres The Dres Love Party Bus Express is now under construction ---------------------------------------------------------------- 12th November 2015 at 02:16. So the crews on the MK1 and MK2 received a transmission from someone at the Kerbal Space Center that contained the technical readouts of the Dres Love Party Bus Express (no, they weren't worried about the thermal exhaust port) ... This shocked and angered both the crews and they decided to protest being left out of the party not to mention the thermal exhaust port, a torpedo could mess with it and that didn't sit right with Valentina. Anyways ... After a long discussion it was unanimously decided, in order to profess their love for Dres in an appropriate manner, that they will ditch both the MK1 and the MK2 missions and return to Kerbin to catch the next bus ... They figured why send one mission for one price when you can send two for twice as much. The problem they now encountered was that each of the mother-ships have a rudimentary AI autopilot that would not allow the intentional destruction of itself by crashing into a celestial body. The solution they came up with was to manually pilot each craft back into the atmosphere and then detach and return to the surface of Kerbin ... For The Love Of Dres, this is gonna be epic ---- Summary --- The MK1 and MK2 missions are being scrapped in order to send 2 Dres Love Party Bus Express' to Dres (8 Party Bus' each containing 19 Kerbals) We're trying to keep space junk down to a minimum so both the MK1 and MK2 will be ditched into the atmosphere to crash into Kerbin The crews of the MK1 and MK2 are not happy about being excluded from the party and will be catching the next bus Pics to follow shortly as the bus is leaving -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12th November 2015, 03:51 So the first 3 kerbals have made it down ... next comes the atmospheric re-entry and safe return of the remaning 3 kerbals on the Dres Love MK1 First 3 landed ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12th November 2015, 14:20 So the remaining crew of the Dres Love MK1 have completed the transfer to their re-entry module attached to one of the outer fuel tanks. Let the re-entry begin ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13th November 2015, 01:03 So the remaining MK1 Crew have landed safely on Kerbin The photo record of their experience can be found below

I recently got back from exile (on other Steam games ) and decided to do something related to Dres Awareness. I downloaded @SpaceplaneAddict's Mercenary rover and took it to Dres for testing. But driving around for testing only is boring, and I landed only a couple kilometers off of the famous canyon, so why not have some fun by plummeting over the edge? Well, until I got stuck in the end Also, the Mercenary is indestructible

In the Dres Awarenes I proposed a Space Hulk mission. The original Proposal: To get this done, I use a pretty long Modlist, which at times results in extreme slowness, the inability to launch more than one ship in succession and spontanous crashing: So, Back to the mission. Or rather it's missian proposal paper in a nicely refined sketch: As of now, I am during the Phase 5 - supplying the shipyard. Docking there is really a PITA by now. Step 1: Getting a Factory ship into any orbit, then driving it to a circular a position where it can deploy the sattelites for the permanent communication array. Sadly... Started via CKan and not Steam, so no pics... Step 2-4: Design the sattelites was pretty easy: command module, batteries, big sattelite dish, omnidirectional antenna, batteries and a resource scanner for the looks. Building them in situ was no problem at all, so deploying them on the final orbits with just a tiny ammount of xenon to correct courses was the most efficient way I could think of. To get to the next position of the 7, the apoapsis was changed to 3000 km for 2 orbits. Next maneuver is another circularisation, then the next sattelite is set free again. Phase 2: no pics Phase 3: unspectacular retrograde burns of Ar-Ion engines. Phase 4: No pics again, but fairly unspectacular... Step 5: Supply missions - these take the longest. The more parts already make up the station, the longer the docking takes, as loading times go down. While the first 6 missions were sent up with a variant of the original rocket that brought up the main factory, the last 3 use a different setup, replacing the argon engines for the transfer burn with liquid fuel ones and a cockpit that does not return to earth. On the other hand, the sideways docking on these missions forces searching for a good angle before engaging the docking pilot. Also: Always use only one type of RCS only - attempts with mixed setups of 5-way and extra strong 2-way RCS enforced aborting one missionduring docking - it ran out of RCS in an angle and I had to revert to construction. Stuck here for now, as the redesign of the ship always crashes my game during launch or I loose tanks in a collision - Getting up a payload of 3 pilots and 40 Kerbals together with 80k rocket parts and supplies for a year is hard, and splitting it down to even MORE missions makes the station FAR bigger... While I lack starting pics (I curse myself!, but HUGE ammounts of tanks tend to make the game crash... and I can't seem to press screenshot often enough) I have quite some of the docking, of the successes docking. Still working on getting 10 & 11 to fly.... EDIT: As the brackets and the imigur gallery adding do not work, the links... Edit: Fixed pictures
