Possible to make a 3D ship?

Recommended Posts

So there are lots of parts in KSP and all these parts have a 3D model (I know I\'m uber-technical with the lingo so try to keep up *joke*) but I was wondering if these parts can be joined together in Blender or whatever to form a complete 3D ship? I don\'t want to use it in game (though that would be cool too) but I\'d like to \'export\' (or is it import) a 3D image of my favourite Mun lander for use in ... idk ... a wire frame image for my desktop/wallpaper. Glossy laminated A4 poster. I dunno - I\'d find a use for it. :)

Yes, you can import them all in blender, however it must be annoying to import 50 parts, always delete the collider, bring them into the right position, delete the parachute objects, etc. And I don\'t know what the textures will do then.

Yeah you can do it, you import the DAE\'s one by one, then strip off colliders and materials from each one (you\'ll want to re-apply new unified materials to all of them.

If the DAEs aren\'t from blender you might need to edit them in notepad to remove the texture info from inside of the <diffuse> tags or they\'ll error out.

And you can import the png texture files back into Blender by applying an image to the UV Map. I\'d have to look up the exact method, but I\'ve seen tutorials that do just that; since you can render the scene in Blender and get a nice quality output.

Don\'t forget lightning and camera! :)
