Scouting

Im The One

Recommended Posts

I would like to start this thread as a place for all scouts through out the world not just limited to the BSA. This will be a place for us to hang out and ask questions on merit badges or for your ranks.

So to start it off I am an Eagle scout (got it back in 2013.)

Scouting as in... World of Tanks scouting, or the military thing... ?

EDIT: I've made a terrible mistake. And yup, I don't even know what BSA means. I just know that Boy Scouts go on camping trips and sell cookies and that kind of stuff.

My ignorance on the topic is showing. :P

Com'on, a scout is Courteous, right? I think he was trying to make a joke.

Moving on...

I've got my Eagle Scout Board of Review scheduled for March 12th.

My favorite badge to earn was Metalworking.

I learned most of the information about my badges after I got them, so as a senior scout.

Who's got Space Exploration?

Also, any non-BSA scouts out there?

I USED to be in the BSA, but then it got to be too much like school, which is what I was trying to avoid (Like a guy who does computer programming for a living might do woodworking or boating as a hobby). I was also developing into the quiet, "creative/eccentric" (I love to write, and I'll be damned if I don't like theatre) alone-type I am today, and scouting being the highly social thing that it is kinda started to wear me out. Had fun while it lasted, but I'd never get back into it with the kinds of politics I know about them (DON'T talk any more about politics, it's not allowed). But hey, if you're into it and like it, to each his own.

Everyone has to have a weakness, Scouts is one of yours. Also, Boy Scouts get kinda angry when we hear "Cookies" and "Scouts" in the same sentence. We have to sell POPCORN, fer cris sakes, and with the lowest one being more expensive than store-bought, we don't sell much ;.;. So yeah, stay away from Boy Scout Cookies :sticktongue:.

what funny is I don't have that merit badge.

though my favorite merit badge was the BSA centennial merit badge called "tracking" (we called it the stalking merit badge b/c that is what it was)

I wish I had earned some of the 2010 badges. I remember thinking about Stalking, but I worked on my Eagle-Reqs.

well I'm sorry scouting turned into that for you. Though it did seem like it did start becoming like school it was for the best. As my parents drilled into my head, you may want to do the fun things but you also have to work for it. Plus on the side of wanting to be a loner (i'm no judge of character) I rolled as the loner or by myself type for a bout two years and I can say I started to find myself into a rut. That's why I am trying right now to impress this one girl right now (and somewhat successful) and all ready my grades have started to climb and I'm starting as she put it fit in more with everyone and starting to be more likeable.

but like my said my opinion, so live live to whatever you want

I've never understood the concept behind it, and I was terribly disappointed when I learned that it's a private funded thing done by religious fundamentalists with appropriate rules. I see it as youth indoctrination, nothing more.

Maybe the things have changed, I don't know...

The point behind it is to teach kids some basic skills that are meant to help them in real life. Be it how to manage your money(personal management), be physically fit (personal fitness) and what else you are interested in along with some basic survival skills. Now on the religious side of things point 1 after this post it will stay out of this forums and 2 my main point is that we are not run by just one religion. Though Christianity may seem to be the main religion at every major summer camp we have different services for denominations. So please from now on keep religion out of this. This a place for scouts to talk and connect and ask for assistance.

I was just commenting the controversy around the whole thing. You can't avoid it, it's too intertwined.

I'm not US American so I have no idea about the concept except the stuff I got from media.

Started in Cub Scouts, then on to Boy Scouts. Never went for Eagle. My cousins made Eagle, three of them... all gave their Eagle pins to our grandmother. In my early teens I joined Sea Scouts, following my father's path, joining the unit he and his friends started back in the late 1940's (after they got back home from Inchon). The Sea Scouts prepped me (gave me advantage) for when I enlisted in the military after high school.

There is another branch of Scouting some of you might be interested in as well, Air Scouts.

Anyways, I'm first class now, and due for star in about 4 months. Some of the merit badges are a pain. At least I got to plan a trip to Duna for personal management.Secret message *kappa*
