Screenshot Organisation and Default Folders

Recommended Posts

Can we please have screen shots saved in a subfolder of the active save rather than in a common folder (as they are now)?

I think this would be quite helpful for folks who are documenting and posting mission reports while running various missions in different save files.

Also, I would anticipate this is a minor change so it should be easy to implement.

Thank you for listening... Please discuss...

Hm, clever idea. Shouldn't be that hard to implement, <technical>it'd just have to make a subdirectory for each save, and make the location for the screenshots Screenshots/X, where X is the name of the save. Error checking to make sure the folder would be needed too, but you could probably just have a "if it doesn't exist, make it" check.</technical>

This would be useful!

Well, if Squad doesn't pick up this idea, you could always create multiple installs. If you always run the exact same modset, you can do all your mod updating in one install, and simply copy-paste the GameData folder over to the other installs (or if on a Unix system, use symlinks. Windows links uh.. well don't always work, so not advised there).

(Come to think of it, there's all sorts of clever things that could be done with symlinks, such as linking the screenshots directory itself upon launch from a shell script...)

True, very true. But I'm thinking of wider distro here. A lot of people are not going to peak under the hood of their OS or write a script to to this. My suggestion is that the game core should do it in the background as standard. Otherwise it's not an improvement suggestion but rather a gentle hack.

SO... you are correct, it could be addressed by a clever custom install and an attentive maintenance procedure - but that's not what I was envisioning.
