Multiple docking ports?

I was wondering if i was to make two modules with both 4 docking ports, if they would all attach or if only one would attach? Will it work with all sizes, and how many can i connect together for a stronger bond?

You can connect multiple docking ports at once, as long as the ports are perfectly aligned. You may have to try it a few times before managing to connect all of them at the same time.

When I plan vehicles with multiples docking ports, I build both in the VAB and align the ports so it will work once in space.

You can connect any amount, but for structural purposes three will usually suffice:

However, if two craft are connected by several docking ports, only one of the connections transfers fuel. The one that came together first, but that it difficult to plan for.

If you want to try multi-port docking, I recommend installing the Docking Port Alignment Indicator. Once you learn to use it, the level of precision you have in casual single-port docking is more than enough for multi-port docking. I've never had to retry multi-docking, because all ports always connect on the first attempt.

If there's a mod that helps with simultaneous dockings like Jouni says, then I'd highly recommend it. It would sometimes take me many tries to get the two halves of this ship design correctly docked into each other.

I'm pretty good at mashing two spacecraft together and getting them to stick but for multiple port docks I require the Docking Port Alignment mod to consistently get right the first time.
