Challenge: Reach orbit using only stock solid rockets and no SAS modules.

Recommended Posts

just did it. though i didnt bother going for orbit, i achieved escape velocity.

and its quite controllable. just be ready for a bumpy ride when you first hit it. also, throttle up the liquid engines before launching.

Somebody didn't read the OP very carefully. I reiterate: No liquid fuel engines allowed.

EDIT:

My current iteration:

Need to make it larger and more capable.

EDIT2:

Aaaaaaaaaand I just noticed I made a typo in the rocket's name. Go me.

I managed to get this thing into an irregular orbit last night. After two hours and four full orbits, it appeared that the orbit was degrading by 5-6 meters each rotation, however, as the closest approach was 37.2k, I really didn't have the patience to see how many orbits it would take to finally make re-entry.

Nothing but SRBs and a lot of non-standard couplers from wobbly rockets. I did have to add an RCS module in the middle to maintain control though.

Success!

Gentlemen!

Allow me to present you with something.

The ship that got me there:

Nothing but stock solid boosters for propulsion and no bloody S.A.S. modules.

Of course, right now they're not going to come back down...

THE PONIES HAVE REACHED ORBIT
