Anyone else play Civ Beyond Earth?

Tried it a month ago when it was on steam free weekend, if you're patient and lucky, Steam promo's are a great way to graze through some great games with no money down ;)

Unfortunately, I felt I had seen enough of it, after a good long binge. After recovering from the sleep-deprived hangover, I was grateful for the imposed limit, returning my RL ;)

It's a solid game mechanic, but I wish it had more story to tell.

I bought Civ:BE and have played through it. It is a good game in my opinion but doesn't really stand up when compared to Civ and the BNW expansion. Would I personally recommend it right now, no, not until we see the worked on and expanded but it is a solid state.

The addition of Starships, which is a seperate game in its own right but follows on after you have won Beyond Earth should be interesting and something I will investigate when it releases in two weeks. One of the things I am doing right now is a playing a 'Grand Game' of Civ. Starting in Civ 5, I start on a Earth map with the 8 civilizations meant to represent the future sponsors, playing for a Space victory and depending on how to the game runs through I will then tune that to Beyond Earth and then carry that over (Starships and BE are cross-compatible apparently) to starships.

That's quite a plan...

Good luck!

I plan to pick it up at some point, but not until it's considerably cheaper than it is at present.

I've owned every single Civ game, this is the first one I've waited before buying.

Any idea how often BNW goes on sale? It looks great, but no way I'm paying 30 bucks for it.

Generally every time Steam has a sale, next one is probably easter.

BE suffers from the same problems all civ game had, eventually expansions are going to come out and those problems are going to be fixed. Hopefully the game is popular enough for that.

Even the normal Civ V was a great game. BNW just made it bigger.

The problem with BE is big. The UI is a complete flip from Civ V. It uselessly makes it harder to play. Changing it now will mess with the BE players.

remember that BE is a different game that Civ V. If they were to update Civ V with a new UI, that would be bad. But BE is a brand new game

I'm sticking with Civ 5 BNW for now. I probably won't buy BE until more mods and DLC comes out. Currently BNW looks so much better than BE even without my mods. I just hope that the Civ series doesn't end up like C&C (garbage).

It's almost as if they're trying to alienate Civ V players. To which they were pretty successful... I mean why fix what isn't broken?

Beyond earth is basically a remake of Alpha centauri which as I recall was nothing like Civ V.

Besides a company willing to shake up the status quo isn't a bad thing, it keeps things interesting.

Of course the original Alpha Centuari is different from Civ V, they're years apart!

But you can add new mechanics while building off of the Civ V UI and not destroying it.
