Ridiculous Contract Conditions

Recommended Posts

Ok, sometimes this game generates quite ludicrous contract requirements.

Or more specifically, ludicrous contract *locations*

In the pic below, I have to make an EVA report on the surface at location OT-W Alpha

The entire region covered by this location is on a cliffside, with a minimum incline of 30.3 degrees.

Jeb cannot walk on that slope, but fortunately my Science Explorer plane can "hover" on the slope with the aid of its jet engines.

Fun, eh? :sticktongue:

This might be the wrong place to post this, but I have had some quite strange contracts as well!

I remember once, I was flying to collect pressure readings in an area just off of the coast of the KSC. There were two to collect in-flight, but the third required me to collect one on the surface. Shouldn't have been a problem... but the site was in the water! Luckily, my gamble paid off when I did a hard landing in the water, shearing off my wings, but luckily I got the point and the contract completed :D

Read the contract, check the location/orbit in the tracking station, read the contract again. If it's nonsensical or the numbers don't work, Gene Kerman tells them no thanks.

problem is this is on ALL the contracts

-get into a microscopic orbit

-do science under this certain cave

-see if this engine works , but only at a strange altitude

-go check this anomoly , but at 3pm only

-send a satellite in an obsene ellipse

-i could go on

OP, I once had a crew report to be made on a slope of 85 deg. I outfited a plane with 2 KAS anchors and slowly scraped down the hill with wheels retracted because i would tumble if i had them out.

My attitude is that sometimes you'll have to go back to your funders, profusely apologise for your inability to complete the contract, and take the penalty. The OP's example obviously isn't that bad since you managed to find a way to complete it :D But there are even outright impossible contracts, typically something like temperature scans from an altitude above where you can do them.

Though I wonder if you can scam your funders by placing a ship worth all your money on the launchpad, cancelling the contract, then recovering that ship. You'll still take the rep hit bit you'll keep your funds.

This is normal way to do business. Company will offer contract considered impossible or stupid just to see who makes bid. If no bid, is really impossible? Then don't do. Maybe other company can do it, get paid, then is good for everybody and have drinks later. Or cannot do it and have to pay penalty and get sued in court, then reconsider bidding on stupid objective next time. Maybe manager get fired! That is good for few drinks also.

Like sometimes you are Apple, and you make impossible contract, and get maker of SAPPHIRE GLASS which is cool stuff to accept impossible contract. Then drive into bankruptcy and buy assets. No sapphire glass for you! But, actually is sad.

@cantab: you can cancel contracts that have been accepted (before their expiration) without paying the penalty. You just have to pay whatever they gave you as an advance.

I got one (which I accepted) to test the KR-2L at the surface of Mun. I can either cheat and use it for the whole trip, or use it only after landing. Either way it's going to be hard, but not impossible.
