Is it possible to manipulate flag placement?

I've generally found that kerbals will generally not simply place a flag in front of themselves on the same facing, but turn around and place it instead. Sometimes they turn all the way around, other times just a few degrees. Is there any way to predict or manipulate this placement?

Not an overly important thing, but when trying to get crew photos on the surface sometimes it's a pain to get the flag oriented correctly.

There is a mod that allows the flag to be rotated.
