White Owl's video series discussion thread

Have you thought about using a mechjeb module on the grunt launch vehicle? This will allow you to control the vehicle with the mechjeb capsule after it has been jettisoned (like having two command capsules). In fact, you could take one of the cockpit parts and make it a mechjeb capsule.

You dont have to use any of the other features mechjeb has (I know you don\'t want too).

Keep up the great work! You are awesome.

I\'m very interested in the wings that you\'re using for the Provisional GRUNT, can you share the link to that part?

Thanks allot and keep up the great video\'s man! I\'m really liking it.

Already did. Those are the same wings that have been in C7\'s aviation pack all along.

Well, if you watched his videos, he explains that mechjeb is NOT another capsule. It has severely limited capabilities.

I\'m sorry. I have watched all of the second season and most of his first season. I must have missed that episode.

What is it missing that you would need to land a Grunt airplane? I was under the impression you couldn\'t use RCS but you don\'t need that to land a plane (well to land conventionally at least).

I tried a Mechjebbed spaceplane once, and the damn thing wouldn\'t roll. At all. In atmosphere or out.

A plane that won\'t roll is useless.

Am I wrong? Is there a way to make a Mechjebbed plane controllable?

Perhaps it was an issue with the version of MechJeb? I don\'t know.

I am not having that issue with this https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11315376/Trainer%201m.craft design. It is fairly hard to control but that only because I suck as making planes ;)

Just pop the cockpit off and roll it away. Then switch to the debris. It flys just as well as this (terrible) plane would with a cockpit and is landable. Maybe a better test would be doing this to a better plane though...

How does the game maintain all those mods on your machine?? Mine should be able to handle it, but with all these mods downloaded, it keeps crashing. I want to be able to build with these mods SO BAD. What\'s happening??? [glow=red,2,300]HOW DO I GET IT TO WORK?![/glow]

The short term goal is to develop a vehicle to lift Prospector above 70km. But if that was all there was to it, I\'d just slap together a big rocket in ten minutes or so and it\'d be done with no fuss.

The long term goal complicates this program. The long term goal is to create an entire line of reusable spaceplane launch vehicles, that will boost a variety of payloads into space and then return for an airplane-style gliding landing. I also want to keep the launch spaceplanes intact as much as possible, meaning no disposable boosters and/or fuel tanks if I can help it.

The even longer term goal is to tell a story... a long story. And that goal is the most interesting one to me. I will deliberately complicate and obfuscate all manner of details to further that goal. That\'s why doing things the most efficient way isn\'t a high priority.

White Owl, or if I may call you Owl, how exactly for the future will you document EVA\'s in the next update? Will they be like \'We invented new technology to head outside the ship\' *splat*

Don\'t know about the EVAs. I\'ll figure that out when I see how they work.

The multiple capsule mod is linked in the first post. It can control a separated vehicle, but it\'s buggy.

Speaking of controlling a separated vehicle... I owe several apologies. Not recording, I just experimented around with a mechjebbed spaceplane, and it worked well enough. It\'s usable for my purposes. So you all were right and I was wrong. No idea why it didn\'t work before.

did a post of mine get removed from in here? im sure I made a post about the junebug and my variation of it, are we not allowed to post pictures in here or something, im confused ???.

I\'m not aware of any removed posts. Go ahead and post it again, please. :)

WhiteOwl , Why not strap some SRBs to the Tail boom?

More thrust , and you can get rid of the weight.

I want the entire launch vehicle to be one reusable assembly. I know it\'s inefficient, but that\'s my goal.

hmm, maybe I meant to make a post on here but never did... good job brain ???

Basically I was going on about this Junebug of yours, its genius!!! After seeing it I went and made my own very similar to yours, I dont think its quite as small, but its pretty close. The biggest difference is that liquid engine on the back, makes for an interesting thing to fly (and by extension, land).

Its remarkably stable, and it even lands. Once again I learned of new things I can abuse do in KSP, all thanks toyour epic series

Hiya White Owl.

I\'m loving the new RUNT/GRUNT and now that you\'re done with the RUNT I was hoping you would not mind putting the RUNT.craft up for downlod.

I would love to try that plane out. I did try to recreate it my self and failed hard. ^^

Since The GRUNT 45-B works so well are you gonna be doing a full out flight to the Mun? or a different kind of test? ::)

Also Have u thought of doing a Live stream on Youtube? Where you could do a part in the chapter live at a sutable time EX: 9/8 C :D Cuase that would be really cool and ppl could ask u things live like 8) :Go land on that lake over there etc. Cause that would be really awesome, and Id love to help out as much a possible ;D ;D :D :D ;D :D :D

What I find interesting about your GRUNT design is that it falls prey to the same mistakes as the Space Shuttle. All the different parts would make it expensive to produce and upkeep as well as greatly increasing the danger of spontaneous failure. On top of that the amount it put\'s into orbit is not that great for it\'s cost. A spaceX like vehicle with identical parts for decreased manufacturing costs would be much more efficient.

But I know your just doing it this way for a challenge and because you end up with ludicrous space launchers :P

Keep it up! :)
