Do kerbals breath oxygen?

#1) Kerbin has O2

Therefore it is highly likely that they have evolved to use O2. Plants use it, pretty much anything with access to O2 will use it as a terminal e- acceptor.

Its just chemistry/physics... there is too much extra energy available for them to plausibly *not* use it.

#2) Laythe has O2, and it is the only celestial body where EVA reports show a Kerbal will try to remove their helmet.

Given that O2 is the only specified component of any atmosphere in the game (ie, we don't know what Duna or Eve or Jool or Kerbin have, we just know they *do not* have O2), its presence is the implied reason a Kerbal may try to breath the atmosphere (only partially successfully... the text implies it doesn't kill them, but that its not pleasant).

It could be that the atmosphere is mostly N2, and that is why a kerbal tries to breath it... or its a similar N2/CO2 mixture... or....

But the simplest explanation with the data on hand is to link the two unique aspects of Laythe together.

*only body aside from Kerbin with O2 in the atmospere

*only body aside from Kerbin where a Kerbal thinks it can remove its helmet and breathe the air (apparently, an unpleasant experience).

I think that makes it highly likely that they do in fact breathe O2.
