Ship testing, easiest way

Recommended Posts

The PR department has been complaining about my dreadful Health & Safety record, seeing as my test flight are done with actual kerbals. A natural result of this is a lot of Kerbals sacrificing themselves for science. Therefore, I've decided to lighten the rules i play by for "simulation mode" where i can test landers and whatnot to their destruction under situations I've had probes test before me. (Basically, simulating a known environment)

Simply put: Say, i want to test a craft, what's the simplest way of moving my ship to a specific location/orbit? For example, if my I want to run "simulations" on my Eve lander, what would the steps be to move it into reentering orbit of Eve quickly?

Preferences:

No reloading required

Debug-console/cheats are acceptable

To move your ship into an Eve reentry state, just quicksave on the launchpad, find your quicksave.sfs, and change the orbital parameters to to put you in an Eve reentry trajectory.

I'd prefer not to do this, as my quicksaves are huge because of the enormous amount crafts, debris, and kerbals around the system. I would prefer a mod that'd allow me to edit position and velocity vector of current craft.

As far as a purely stock method goes, turn on infinite fuel and if needed hack gravity and fly to your destination.

For mods Hyperedit will let you move anything to anywhere.

More widely, to protect Kerbals during testing you have two options. Either put a probe core on and run an unmanned test, or provide an abort contingency for emergencies.
