Station naming

My KSS keeps changing names when stuff docks with it. Is there any way to make sure the KSS keeps its name as the KSS?

Are you docking stuff to it that was created before the station? I believe the oldest craft always takes precedence for the name.

I thought it was the object being docked TO that gave the name to the object. I could be wrong, though.

You can exploit that "feature" to make the game believe it's a new station, if you are playing career.

I think the first command pod/ probe has it's name preserved. I may be wrong though.

Maybe I was switching vessels while docking stuff, or its a bug.

Well, name changes and such are governed by a few rules. You can see the docking rules here, and naming convention generally follows suit. I think there are a few occasions where the names will revert strangely, but if your station is actually labeled as a station, it should remain the parent when docking anything of lower priority. If docking "base" or "station" craft, then the name will still change.
