Do Scott Manley has disabled RT2 signal delay on his Interstellar Quest series?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if he's updated since I last watched the series' date=' but for a while he had RT2 disabled because it hadn't been updated.[/quote']

He has not updated it. He deleted the plugin, but kept the parts so that he could fly existing craft.

Yep, he originally disabled just the delay, then later removed the mod entirely because of bugs. He kept the parts so as to not lose active flights. Remote Tech was pretty buggy in 0.23.5 (the version he uses in IQ)

Thanks guys!

I understand why he did (I'm almost doing the same, maybe not for the same reasons).

I'm about to exit Kerbin SOI and I wanted to see how experienced players deal with signal delay (Flight Computer falls short and kOS is too hard for someone who has little free time to play).

So, how do YOU deal with signal delay? ;)

I agree with the idea that not having proper automation tools makes signal delay a nuisance. I use kOS to handle things like landings and launches, and the flight computer for more mundane tasks. In 0.23.5 I played in IVA only and required all unmanned craft to be controlled entirely with the flight computer (plus manual throttle). I had to disable signal delay when I stupidly used RCS based probes around Eve, but did manage to complete a docking with a one second delay (in a polar orbit that only had connection half the time and would also lose it for several days each week). Back then the flight computer didn't save scheduled commands, executed nodes at the node instead of half before, and couldn't point toward a target if you targeted a docking port.

Signal delay is certainly doable, but not always fun. I'd say to do whatever is actually fun for you.

I disable the delay simy because I don't want to have to learn how to use KOS. I figure since NASA has put unmanned things on other planets with a delay in the minutes, it wouldn't be unreasonable for me to fly the craft myself with a delay and pretend it is a very sophisticated automated system flying the craft while the kerbals at mission control watch their monitors hoping it doesn't smash into the surface.

Thanks to you both! :D

Hey, magico13, can you please send me these scripts you use (or at least show me the way to the tutorial you used)?

He doesn't seem to have problems controlling unmanned crafts on Moho...

I'd like to see how he deals with signal delay, but I didn't find anything about it on his first ten descriptions...

I've watched the entire series, and i can confirm that he has. He mentions it in one episode. I cannot remember why, but there was a logical reason for it.

After a while he disabled the mod altogether because of compatibility issues

I disable signal delay. I love the extra work you need to put in building comms infrastructure with RemoteTech, but having to deal with signal delay is a major pain.

The flight computer.

My favourite trick is performing a manual launch, and then queueing up circularisation, transfer, Munar intercept, then Munar circularisation all in the flight computer and letting the probe execute this while out of range of KSC. That will almost certainly need further correction to tweak it in to a good final orbit, but that can also be performed through the computer and executed hands-free.

(seriously, watching Mr. Manley flying without the flight computer in the Interstellar series was painful. I kept shouting at the monitor. :) )

Hehehe! I may have not understand correctly what you meant by "painful" (sometimes I don't get the punchlines in English), though I agree it was a shame...
