Do some biomes provide more science?

Recommended Posts

So I'm kinda new here and play with some mods (remote tech 2, nova punch, karbonite, scansat, and KAS. I just play with them to keep gameplay interesting) and I'm playing science mode prepping my armada for Duna. So I have 3 science landers currently in orbit in the mun (well two, did I mention that I also play with kerbal engineer and kerbal alarm clock so I can tell when launchwindows are coming up). There's this question that I have that I've tried to find the answer to online but failed. Do some biomes provide more science than others? I need to know because I have explored 3 craters on the mun but have not been to the high lands or mid lands, or the canyons.

Yes they do. The body on which the biome is located has a science multiplier value as shown on this wiki page. On a given body, all biomes yield the same science value for the same experiment.

Of course, you want to do each experiment at a new biome for maximum science. Repeating the same experiment at the same biome yields little or no additional science.

Hope this helps.

Happy landings!

According to the link, Kerbin has 42 biomes?! Do i read that right?

If you're not averse to using the debug menu, you can hit ALT-F12 to open that up and select an option to show biomes on the map view. This will show a very colorful overlay on a planet or moon where each color represents a different biome - it can be useful for finding good landing spots on the Mun and other places. It's also handy to let you see where you are going better if you are on the dark side of the body you are orbiting as these colors show up independent of sunlight.

Correct.

42 might seem ludicrously high but that's including the 33 biomes that can be found at KSC itself.

I just don't get why they thought that was necessary... or even a remotely good idea. You don't need that science, and even if you did, there's the Admin building...

Unless it's a precursor to having micro-biomes on all bodies, it just seems pointless. The vast, VAST majority of Kerbin is the same biome, so why not, I dunno, change that up a bit?

More likely it's a left-over from earlier developer versions where all you had was Kerbin, and then Kerbin + Mun. And that was true up until last fall, when they added biomes to all of the other planets/moons.

I've been studiously ignoring the KSC biomes... until basic rover wheels are in the first tech node, at which point I'll believe that they're intended to be there and that it's meant to be how you get your science going :)
