KSP Crash TO Desktop Revert/recovery/VBA/SPH

Recommended Posts

Hi I am not sure much can be done to clue me in on the cause of my crashes or if I can fix it even if I am told what is causing the crashes but I guess I won't know unless I ask. My game is heavily modded so not sure much can be done. Here is the link to my crash reports. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B27A074CVw4yaVZLczJlWS1BU0U&usp=sharinghttps://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B27A074CVw4yaUViVE84TEVwTjQ&usp=sharing

I am running most of the mods in Scott Manley's mod list here:http://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/1upc6g/scott_manleys_interstellar_quest_modlist/

I am not running Kethan and I subbed Better Atmospheres

With Astronomer's Visual Pack - Interstellar V2

Edit: This primarily happens when entering the VBA/SPH or upon revert or recovery of a craft.

Using -force opengl

I hope someone can help and thank you.

See a couple of threads down:

If you check your process memory consumption and it steps up like mine does, then you're probably looking at the same problem. It seems to happen regardless of which mods you might be using, mods just make you crash faster (since you have less free memory for the program to leak in the first place. IE, this is a squad bug, not a mod bug.

So not not possible to stop memory leaks but reducing memory footprint and maximize available memory will reduce the frequency of the crashes. Got it! I hope they fix in 1.0, if it is not a mod with a memory leak.

Here is a partial fix from Claw:

Game crashes during scene change (on Revert, Launch, etc) or some of the graphics (buttons/text) are glitched – [PARTIAL FIX]

This seems to be related to graphics settings and causes crashes when the game is switching scenes. I don’t think the cause is tracked down yet, but is sometimes linked to the resolution being set to max.

I suffered a lot from this problem till I figured out that it is related to running at maximum resolution in windowed mode. This was not a problem for me in v0.23.0, but the following fixes have made this issue go away completely.

Possible fixes:

- Try running in full screen mode.

- Reduce resolution away from max.

- Run in frameless window (fake full screen) mode. Create a shortcut to KSP.exe and add the command flag “-popupwindow†The shortcut line should look something like “C:\Games\KSP Install\KSP.exe -popupwindowâ€Â

Also, try reducing the texture quality down to Half or less. If you can't get to the main menu of KSP, edit the settings.cfg file with a plain text editor and look for the "TEXTURE_QALITY" line. Make it say "TEXTURE_QUALITY = 1". Restart KSP.

The reason why those things work is because they reduce your base memory consumption, allowing you more memory leaks before the game will crash. I've been doing the same things in order to give myself more overheard.

Unfortunately it doesn't do anything to actually fix the memory leak (you will still crash eventually).

I agree that the memory leak needs to be fixed but this is better than nothing and at least makes the game playable. Unless you are running with a small margin even with this implemented.
