Thrust Limiting Engines

Recommended Posts

I've been playing around with thrust limiting on my engines, particularly SRB's. So far, I haven't been able to figure out how to thrust limit anything to 50.

I doubt it makes a big difference having your thrust limited to 50 vs 50.5 or 49.5, but it seemed strange that you couldn't set 25, 50, or 75.

Is this something thrown in by the devs to mess with people who have OCD? Is there maybe another reason? Has anyone found a way to set 25, 50, or 75?

It's just one of those quirks about the tweakable system. In fact, if you try to select settings near the very ends of the scale, they are also unselectable. The system "snaps" toward some values, and generally the very center and very ends are difficult/impossible to set precisely.

Welcome to the forums! :D

Probably not, I can thrust limit SRBs to 25/50/75 without any problems.

That's interesting. I tested it on a fresh vanilla install, and was unable to. Could it be an installed mod allowing you to get 25/50/75?

Think I can set it to 50%, though it tends to snap to 49.5 or 50.5 yes.

Bigger issue I have with SRB is the fact that the fuel doesnt stay where I put it! for example if I have a 18.5t craft and I reduce the solid fuel to, say, 49.5(random number) to get the mass down to just below 18, if I rightclick the srb again then it'll have 37.5 fuel, it will *always* go to the same seemingly random value which costs quite a lot of delta-v

now that I think of it I should probably make a bug report for that :)

I think that for fuel sliders it automatically snaps to certain increments - something like 1/8 of a full tank. I'm guessing it does this to ensure that you always have equivalent amounts of LF and O.

What the game really needs is an improved slider control for all sliders that allows you to optionally type in the value you want directly.

I have some mod (I have literally no idea which one) that allows you to select any value, although is is hard to get exactly 50%, or integer values like 55, 54, 30, etc. For a while I thought it had been added to the stock game.

Edit: My guess would be Procedural Fairings, I didn't read the update log after installing the latest version.

I'm running with KER, KAC, KVV, NavBallDockingAlignment, TransferWindowPlanner, Hyperedit and Ubiozur Welding mod. Probably not any of them causes this.

I'd be more inclined with the resolution and UI scale that Eric S mentioned. I'm running on 1280x720 resolution (windowed) with UI set to small or very small, not sure right now.

I tried running it at 1280x720 in windowed mode with various ui size settings. None of them allowed me to get 25/50/75 (or fine tune the upper and lower ends). I also tried 1366x687 (my native res) and 1920x1080 in fullscreen, borderless, and windowed. I also adjusted the ui size between tiny and small for all resolutions and was still unable to hit my mark.

Unless I'm really goofing this, I disagree that resolution, ui size, or window mode have anything to do with this.

Everyone, please note: This is just a curiosity for me. Don't feel obligated to help me figure out what's going on. That said, I still want to figure out why this is happening and any help would be appreciated.

I know it's not my mouse sensitivity. I can hit every other value in increments of .5

My kingdom for the option to enter such tweakable values with the keyboard in a text box.

Yes, PLEASE!

^ This.

Along with a check-box option to link/unlink the liquid fuel and oxidiser amounts so I can tweak them either together (maintaining the correct ratio) or separately only if I so choose.

And this too!
