"Divide" the KR-1 and KS-25

Recommended Posts

The game as a whole needs better engine clustering support - should be a way of building a custom engine cluster without going nuts with cubic octags or requiring mods (Pfairings or AIES or such).

It's rather silly that we've been given pre-built engine clusters when a big percentage of KSP's draw is that you build your own rockets...

In a sense, there just needs to be "3-4-5-6 Engine cluster plate" part that you stick onto the bottom of a fuel tank. And then obviously, the engines.

I thought about that for a while with the 2 new NASA parts that have respectively 2 and 4 engines.

The thruster plate (from PF) does this, but a stock option would be better. They should remove the tank bottoms from all the engines, though. They also need a stage separator that works with clusters out of the box, as well.

Thrust plates similar to the one from Procedural Fairings wouldn't really solve the problem. If you look at the engine clusters closely, you'll see that the individual engines in the KS-25x4 are similar to the Skipper in size, while the engines in the LFB are closer to the Mainsail. As you can't fit four 2.5 m engines under a 3.75 m part, or two 2.5 m engines under a 2.5 m part, the existing engine clusters would become impossible. Doing something similar to the KS-25x4 and the LFB with the existing engines would require a complete overhaul of the way the engines are used.
