Suggestion for Suggestions and Developement Discussion sub-forum.

Add a rule to fight 'There's a mod for that.' syndrome. Just because there is a mod for that doesn't mean it shouldn't be stock.

--updated--

Apologies for not making the above more detailed. I'm not saying that pointing a new player toward a mod is bad, I'm saying that it's not an excuse for not having x feature in game. IMO, when somebody suggests something that has been done partially by a mod, and somebody points them towards a mod, it lessens the demand for a well done stock version. People settle for a mod instead of being persistent in their request(s).

This has been going on ever since mods were being made for this game. Supporters of the practice maintain that they are only trying to be helpful in the interim but I don't think the Suggestions forum should be a "Suggestions for a mod I might be able to install to solve this suggestion I'm trying to make" since we already have a forum for that.

I'd have disagree with this suggestion, moderators have enough to do without having to warn or infract users that are trying to be helpful. The "there's a mod for that" posts are usually only one or two in a given thread, it's not enough noise to cause the thread to be unreadable and may expose people to mods they were not aware of.

I should have made it clearer that it would be less of a rule and more of a guideline.

I don't think it's a bad thing to mention add-ons that would meet the requirements of a suggestion. In fact, one could use them as a starting point for further discussion, by discussing which add-on features could be integrated into the stock game and how.

Forbidding 'There's a mod for that.' is BAD! Many people, especially new players, might not know the existence of the mod in question. And more often than not the mod has been made as a result of it being frequently suggested/requested.

In my eyes there is a better option: Instead of only posting 'There's a mod for that.' and nothing more have the decency of providing a link to the mod you're talking about.

If there's a mod for it.....screw that, do it in stock and style with 10k boosters.

That's the spirit! I stand by Kerbal Engineer as my only one true god. I feel like a lot of the challenge in building comes from considering stock limitations, then smashing them.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
