Hey, thanks for the help with the patch but it doesn't seem to work for me. I follow your instructions and console box pops up, I tell it yes I want to patch and it does it successfully, but when I launch KSP it is still not in full screen.

Sorry, some of my questions below may be too obvious.

- Is your game set to fullscreen in it's in-game settings menu? This changes only applies to fullscreen mode: switches a new kind of fullscreen mode to a traditional one (called exclusive fullscreen mode). I would advise not using the KSP Launcher, i suspect it is very outdated.

- Check in steam your launch options: righ click on KSP in your library, Properties, "set launch options" button on the general tab. It should be empty, -force-opengl and -force-d3d11 definitely render my patch useless.

Thanks for replying, my settings are set as fullscreen in-game and I am using Steam not the launcher. The set launch options field is empty

Hi Chublord, i have found a better way to test real fullscreen / unity default fullscreeen.

- start the game and let it load fully

- press alt-tab, BUT don't release the alt key

- list of active window icons pops up in a small window at the center. With unity default fullscreen mode this window is on the game's screen. With true fullscreen windows switches back to your normal desktop to show this icon list.

- release alt :)

Hey, I tried your new test Jazzkutya but it didn't work. I let KSP load to menu screen (Start Game, Credits that stuff) and then hold alt down after alt-tabbing, nothing happens. If i alt tab out of KSP then hold alt after tabbing while on desktop or any other screen then those active windows pop up but there is no second KSP window just KSP, Steam and Desktop.

@Chublord:

When your KSP is open and you alt+tab, holding alt, does it leave the game or it shows a window with tabs on the top of the game screen?

If it shows a tab with the other windows on the top of the game then you are not on true fullscreen.

If it goes back to the desktop without showing that tab, you are on true fullscreen.

It's not that simple to know if you are on true fullscreen or not, that is the reason why the only people who noticed it were the ones having issues.

And that is why unity can get away with this hacky fake fullscreen thing.

I think you just forgot while alt-tabbing that you have to keep pressing alt. Happens to me too.

Anyway here is another method to determine what kind of fullscreen is used:

- start task manager (ctrl-alt-del, you get a menu where you can start it)

- in task manager's options menu turn on "Always On Top". This will keep task manager above any application's window, so it is always visible. Resize the window to minimal size to be less obtrusive and verify that no other window can obstruct it.

- Start KSP. With unity default fullscreen mode task manager will be visible while ksp is running in fullscreen. With real fullscreen task manager will not be visible.

Jazz I tried the Task Manager thing but it was visible when I opened KSP, I checked that full screen was enabled in KSP game menu. I'm going to try and validate the steam game cache and then reinstall your patcher, just to see if there was a problem with what I did. Just to be sure, you place it in the folder, along with the source files, with the launcher and the GameData files and all that stuff, just not in any particular files.

Tetryds, thanks for replying. I held alt after alt-tabbing and the game went straight to the desktop, there is a flash of those boxes but it goes away.

EDIT:

I validated the Steam cache and it re-acquired 5 files. I then used your patcher, everything went okay but still I can see the task manager in KSP.

That means that it was working as it should :)

I held alt after alt-tabbing and the game went straight to the desktop, there is a flash of those boxes but it goes away.

The icon list (assuming by "those boxes" you mean the icon list of alttabbing) goes away at the moment you release the alt key at the end of alt-tabbing. Carefully review how you do the alt-tab:

BAD:

- you press alt and tab in a single operation on the keyboard, and without even noticing it, you release both at the same moment.

Good:

- push down alt, press tab normally, but do not release alt. Keep it pressed.

Sorry for the "alttabbing for dummies" stlyle, but most of what you wrote indicated a possibility that you were doing the alt-tab wrong.

EDIT: disregard everything I said above in this post. Win7+aero does produce what you have described and the difference between unity-fullscreen and real fullscreen shows up in a completely different way:

Hold alt, tap tab 2 times. Now you have the icon list. Give it a little time and it will show preview in the background of the currently selected window/app. Now while still holding alt and tapping tab you switch thru the active windows and the preview in the background changes. Here comes the difference: with real fullscreen windows won't show a preview for KSP, only for other windows. With unity fullscreen windows will show preview of KSP.

Please note this is on win7+aero and i don't know if it works the same on win8.

But based on the task manager test your KSP does not run in real fullscreen mode and i just don't have any idea why.

Maybe you could investigate Nvidia Optimus if it has anything to do with it (and if you have Optimus to begin with), but i can't help with this.

Thanks for your help, I don't know what the problem is. When I alt-tab there is a preview for KSP, the Task Manager stays over the top and I don't have Optimus. By now i think it is something other than your fix that is the problem. If I get it working I'll let you know what I did. Thank you

Hey ! Thanks a lot for that fix, this solved half of my problem !

... Half cause yeah, ShadowPlay refuses to record what i'm doing in KSP. Previsouly, before this Patch, I used to record as a desktop capture, really not comfortable cause i would record with the native resolution, i.e 1600*900 while i'm playing 1920*1080. BTW this is still possible.

But i'm still looking for a solution for ShadowPlay :P At the moment, I have the icon showing me that yes, it received my order of recording (The white arrow in a corner) but nothing appear in any folder, neither the temp one. While it is working on other game (I think) and desktop (i'm sure).

Edit : Ooookay, my mistake, I changed the directory and it works fine...

Then just thanks ! :D

The patcher now supports KSP 1.1.0. Patches only 64bit KSP (but still works with earlier 32bit KSP). If there is need to patch also 32bit i will do that.

New thing: I can not alt-tab back into the game if patched, on Windows 7. Test this first on KSP main menu to know ahead if you will have any problems alt-tabbing out of KSP in the middle of a high-stake mission :)

I installed this fix on my 1.1 version on Windows 10.  I have the Shadowplay icon again, and I can confirm I am able to alt-tab between desktop and KSP at the menu screen.  Although as I was typing this the game crashed at the menu screen, not sure if it is related to the fix or not (I did do about 5 alt tab cycles before beginning to type this).

So things seem to work for several alt tab events but after a while it gets wonky. Eventually if would not tab back into KSP and I lost the ability to click anything on the desktop (could still click on the taskbar and alt tab between programs and use TAB to cycle through the windows, so I had to force open Task manager and tab to KSP.exe and hit delete to forse close it)

In all though Having shadow play back is a good thing.

Just signed up to say thanks for this. I wouldn't be able to play if not for your fix due to a diagonal screen tearing bug with my gpu.

I just got a G-Sync monitor and was having such a hard time figuring out why G-Sync wouldn't work with KSP. Thank you for this thread explaining the behavior and thank you for the fix!!!
