Squadcast Summary for 2015-04-18 - Picture Perfect Edition!

Everything is awesome, holy crap!

I wish Max could have stuck around a little longer to answer whether fairings HAVE TO come apart like that. It would be a but silly and unrealistic, not to mention unattractive.

Other than that, this has to be the best Squadcasts I've ever seen.

I did manage to ask Kasper whether the fairings were persistent and he said that he couldn't confirm or deny.

You forgot to mention that maxmaps showed the massive difference in load times between stock 0.90 and the current 1.0 build live ... and also the fuel cells. But good work as always :D

I'm not convinced that we won't get tidier fairing separation. Max isn't known for being a good designer, as evidenced by his craft in the stream. I doubt Harvester would stand for such unrealistic, debris-strewn separation events, given the other more realistic things slated for 1.0.

IIRC, the fairing parts are considered the same as broken solar panels - they exist, but once they go beyond the physics bubble, they are deleted forever. Temporary debris, no Kessler Syndrome here.

Also yes, pls merge this thread into my Summary?

Yeah, its not any kind of deal breaker or anything, but the fairing separation bugs me. I mean, it doesn't look like anything realistic at all. There aren't a lot of real pictures of it, but there are plenty of mock ups that NASA and other space agencies have put up, and it just doesn't look right.

Like I said, it's not enough to make me not use them... just strange.

I suppose it makes sense to the Kerbals though.

the load difference is in there, the line just above the smiley face in the OP.

also: Utility bays? more like Rover storage!

Hate to harp on the one negative thing, but the fairing separation is kind of a bummer. The way fairings separate for real is just so cool looking.

Love the equipment bays though. Been wanting those forever.

The merge would put yours on page 3 of this thread i think, if it is done by post time.

There was an awful lot of awesome in that Squadcast! So many cool parts and mechanics revealed. Fuel cells! Ablative heat shields! I don't like to casually throw around the h-word or buy a ticket before I know where it's going, but I may have to talk to the booking office. :)

I don't care whether they're persistent, I just want them to come apart in two halves, nor a million pieces. It's all about the look for me.

Regarding the new cargo bays, are they always transparent or only on mouseover? Definitely looks like the transparent one in the screenshot has the mouse on it.

He said it was a mouse over, just like the fairings.

Did anyone catch the part about ore just being all-purpose for now? Right now it can be turned into anything, but that may not be the case later? I'd noticed when they first showed off the narrow-band resource scanner that there was a part that said "Resource: Ore" as if perhaps there could also be other resources. Pretty excited about that. I'm hoping they add a resource that can be collected and turned into life support!

I already have a ship design...

Docking port.... two 1.25 meter equipment bays.... decoupler.... Mk1 Command Pod.... heatshield.... decoupler... 1.25 meter tank with solar panels on side.... an LV-909... and a final decoupler for sep from the booster rocket. All wrapped in a fairing.

Maybe we could put sepratrons on the fairing pieces so as to get rid of them ASAP?

The new resource and the resource system are meant to be highly moddable.

About the cargobays, they appear to have a floor and ceiling which would prevent stacking, am I seeing that right?

Maybe it's toggleable? Nothing stopping you from putting stuff on top of other stuff anyway.

Thankfully. That's one thing I hated about the 6S compartments, trying to get stuff to radially attach inside them was a real pain because they had no floor. If you need bigger, an interstage fairing is likely what you want.
