Decoupled docking port just wobbles

Recommended Posts

I attached a small satellite to a larger vessel with the intention of undocking it when in the vicinity of the target moon. The satellite moved closer to the vessel rather than away from it and I can only get it to wobble around. The RCS on the vessel is too weak to get the satellite to separate. Rotation also fails to fling it off. Perhaps I should have used the junior docking port but it wasn't possible due to reasons.

The docking ports need to be able to flip their magnets.

The magnet effect is only when selecting a docking port. I don't understand you issue. I use docking ports a lot. Sometimes I even don't use RCS, I rotate my space station and the very slow movement push the undocked item away.

The only issu I've notices is when you undock something, go back to the space center and get back to the undocked part. It sometimes redock itself when they are VERY near. So I wait a bit (time warp), THEN go back to space center.

This is a known bug. The only possible way to fix this, that I know of is through savefile editing.

It's a little fiddly but worth it, as to my knowledge there is no other way to remedy it. [thread=35777]This is a very detailed thread dealing with exactly this issue.[/thread]

Also, always backup your savefile before editing! I learned this the hard way.

Not to undermine Roscoe's thread (because his thread helped me create the updated thread), but here's a bit newer / more detail in this thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/78863-FIX-Dock-Undocking-Bug-in-0-23-5

It takes a bit of poking around, but once you figure out the part numbers it's pretty straight forward to fix. As TheXRuler said, keep a backup. :)

Cheers,
