Deleting unused parts???

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Kerbonauts...

I've been playing for a little while and discovered the fun of adding lots of mods to enhance game play. Unfortunately, adding lots of mods also seems to add lots of parts that I don't usually use, at least in my current game. For example, the Firespitter mod adds parts for a World War I era biplane, and B9 Aerospace adds a bunch of huge parts, and I don't use them in the game I'm playing now. All these extra parts seem to slow down my game and make it take a long time to load.

So can anyone tell me if it's possible to delete some of the parts I don't use? And if so, can I just delete the parts in my current game save, so if I start a new game I could use them then?

Thanks in advance for your help...

Yep, you can delete any parts you want. I once by complete accident deleted them all, game started just fine, I just couldn't build anything.

Just remove them from GameData\Squad or GameData\NASAMission

You can not just remove them for one save however, it will be every save on that installation. You can maintain multiple installations though. There is no DRM, so just copy the install folder elsewhere.

KSP ModAdmin, and possibly TinkerTime can be helpful in deleting specific parts from mods. When deleting parts, you just have to be careful that the models and textures arent also used by parts you will be keeping. A good example are there are several mods that reuse the stock (Squad) models/textures, so you have to be careful deleting unused Squad parts...

I'm not sure if CKAN is helpful this way or not?

If using CKAN 1.5.6 or above, the third-party PartManager plugin allows CKAN to remember not to install specified parts when an add-on is installed/updated. Apparently, these settings will persist even if the add-on is uninstalled and reinstalled at a later date.

You may find that 1.0 suddenly sorts out your loading times - if it looks like a big job, I'd be inclined to wait 5 days and find out :)

It's not so much loading times but the memory limit that'll make you want to delete parts. Also interface clutter.
