Twas the night before beta

Twas the night before beta, when all through the Vehicle assembly building

Not a kerbal was stirring, not even billy-bobfeldring

the rockets were held in the save files with care,

in hopes that the beta game soon would be there

the kerbals were nestled all snug in their beds

while visions of aerodynamic failures danced in their heads

and wernher in his coat, and I in my suit

had just settled down for a long game reboot

when out on the runway there arose such a clatter

I sprang from the hitchhiker container to see what was the matter

away to the window I waddled like a flash,

tore open the airlock and threw up the sash

The mun on the surface of the runway's dim figure,

gave the luster of mid day to the nightly picture

then what should my wondering eyes see there,

but a miniature capsule and shiny new space hardware

with a little young driver, so quick like a ballerina.

I knew in a moment it must be Valentina

more luminous than stars her engines did burn

and she shouted, and laughed as she called them in turn;

"Now Thud! Now Mainsail! now Poodle! Now Skipper!

on NERVA! on Rhino! on Ion! on Terrier!

To the top of the VAB! to the top of the wall!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

as seprerated wings from a crashed jet fly,

when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.

so up to the house top the coursers they flew,

with the vessel full of science and miss valentine too.

And then, in a blast I heard on the roof.

the crashing of the vessel from the rocketry goof.

as I drew in my hand and was turning around,

through the ceiling came val kerman to the ground

a bundle of science reports on her back

and she looked like a peddler just opening her pack.

her eyes-- how the twinkled! her wall-gaze how merry!

her expression sweet and her widow's peak hairy!

Her droll little mouth in a small overbite,

and her eyes gazing apart, bulging and white.

the container of science, held tight in her arms

and the smoke hung around her, setting off several alarms.

she had a broad green face and a little round belly

that shook when she laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

she was little and stout, a right jolly green elf,

and I laughed when I saw her in spite of myself.

a wink of her eye, and a twist of her head,

soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

she spoke not a word but went straight to her work.

and all the science, and turned with a jerk.

and laying her mitten aside of her face,

and giving a nod, jetpacked back to space.

she sprang to her rocket, to its remains gave a whistle,

and away they all spiraled like the down of a thistle.

but I heard her exclaim, ere she flew out of sight,

"HAPPY BETA TO ALL! AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!"

I do love poetry :P
