Tourist wants Suborbital flight on the Sun

Recommended Posts

KSP 1.0, fresh install, new career, no mods.

Just noticed I have a tourist wanting a "Suborbital flight on the Sun". Paying a woeful 19500 funds for the experience. Is this a mistake or intended?

I guess you can burn retrograde near Jool to get your periapsis down then bring it up again after the contract completes, but that would still be insanely costly.

Note I haven't even been outside Kerbin's SOI yet, the Pol missions are due to a bug with taking data from the Poles of Minmus.

This is a thrill seeker. He isn't asking to die, he's asking you to get into a sub-orbital trajectory momentarily. :P Also, the partial fares are not representative of their respective bodies. You'll notice they are the same per itinerary. The sun factors into the full fare, which is 234,000 funds.

Good to know. Though even 234,000 is unlikely to cover the cost of achieving a suborbital solar trajectory and recovering.

I wouldn't mind an answer here either (or would also like to point it out as a bug). I took a 4 person tourist mission before I read the fine print. I haven't even been to Duna yet in 1.0...this seems like it should be much further along in the career given the delta-v requirements.

One capsule, one parachute, one probe core, one heatshield, one large MkIII LF tank, one nuke, two solar panels, enough booster to lift it to LKO. Should be doable for well under √100,000.

Plus, of course, the assorted "science from solar orbit" etc contracts you can pick up while you're doing it.
