Wrong CoM for airbreathing engines

Recommended Posts

KSP Version: v1.0.0.830 Windows (steam)

What Happens: The center of mass are out of the air-breathing engines, making difficult to build small planes

Mods / Add-Ons: All Stock

i tried to uninstall/install and go back to the beta version et repatch to the 1.0 version (the beta version didn't have this probleme) and it didn't solve the probleme.

it looks like this (it's the same for basic the jet engine and turbofan jet engine):

(if more information is needed don't hesitate to ask me :))

This is actually by design, the "engine" is really the nozzle and to help with center of mass issues the aero engines have had their CoM moved forwards :)

I was about to post this bug today as well, but then I read this answer.

This weird workaround for a "problem" that wasn't there will screw up more potential designs than it will solve.

For instance, a VTOL with the engine placed vertically, will have a tremendous tendancy to roll/pitch because it'll be top-heavy.

I really hope Squad will revert the change.

That is a nice and clean design!

Though I still can't agree with the change.

I want to say it's unrealistic, but I know that argument is moot considering we're talking about a game.

[sigh] Guess I'll have to stick to modding the cfg-files...:(

(for anyone interrested, it's this line: CoMOffset = 0.0, 2.3, 0.0)

KSP Version: 1.0.0 Windows 32-bit Steam release

What Happens: Center of mass of plane behaves strangely after Wheesley is attached.

Mods / Add-Ons: Stock

Steps to Replicate: 1) Construct a simple space plane with a crew module, fuel tank, and the Wheesley.

2) Toggle Center of Mass as viewable and observe how it changes when the Wheesely is attached and removed from the rest of the plane. Compare with the Swivel engine, which has the same mass.

3) Flight testing should display that the plane tilts toward the ground.

Result: Plane cannot fly because its mass is improperly distributed.

Fixes/Workarounds: None found

Other Notes/Pictures/Log Files: Series of images showing mass distribution
