How to edit dds images correctly? [Save-format etc]

Recommended Posts

Hi

I want to modify a dds texture. I load it up into gimp and did my stuff, now i can't get the saving right....

In KSP they are all white (no texture)

What are the right saving and loading options ?

LOAD?

- With minimaps or without ?

- Decode Yo---- Images ?

SAVE?

- What type of compression ?

- With minimaps or without ?

- Use of the old Minimaps ?

- Create new or none ?

- What format ?

Thanks

Only open with mipmaps if you want to seperately edit mipmaps; generally you won't, you can do fun distance effects occasionally with them but that's usually very specific. If you do open with mipmaps, edit the program & resave with the originals then you've only edited one part of a multi-part image, so that's not what you're after. The "Decode xxxxx" thing is probably fine.

As for saving, if you're modifying an existing file then load it into something that can give you info first like irfanview, and copy that. Generally I would expect simple images to be DXT1 and things with alpha channels to use DXT5.
