Gamebreaking bug when launching orbital surveyor

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

  • KSP version including Windows, Mac, or Linux, 32 or 64-bit, and if it's Steam

Version: 008302015.04.26 , Windows 64 bits , Steam

  • A detailed explanation of what happened and what you were trying to accomplish

While playing career mode, I launched a satellite that had an orbital surveyor attached to it in order to perform a scan of Kerbin. I set it in a circular polar orbit at 125km altitude. Before doing anything with the said surveyor, I

quicksave and notice that the stack decoupler kicked me off a little from circular. I quickload before decoupling and then the satellite isn't showing anymore. I only see the orbital surveyor, nothing else. Kerbin's image is bugged as well.

I don't see my staging anymore, I can't activate anything or move anything, the ressources don't show up as if the whole rocket didn't load with the orbital surveyor. I terminate the flight from the tracking station and launch another one and once it is in orbit, I go back to the space center. As soon as I go back to the orbital surveyor, the same bug occurs. All my other flights work fine even after the bug occurs, i.e. I can switch to my other satellites, stations in orbit, etc., and they work fine. I only seem to have issues with my orbital surveyor satellites...

Yikes, I know this one, it's a failure to load assets and it's been in KSP since 0.16, there's never been a lead on a fix, but restarting KSP clears it.

Thankfully it's not very common, I have had this bug maybe 5 or 6 times since I started playing in 2012 :)

Could be related to / caused by this bug? If the surveyor was the first part you placed in the VAB, try using the "select root" gizmo to make some other part of your spacecraft the root. That might fix it.

You are totally right. I suspected it might have been caused by the surveyor being the root since it was the only part loading, then I read the post you linked after submitting my bug report (why didn't I use the search function) and felt dumb. I changed the root of the rocket and launched a third one, this time, the bug was gone! Thank you for your replies folks =)
