Best to nuke your GameData/Squad folder first, then apply the patch. That way if things changed name, you won't have two copies.

How safe will it be to pull the game saves folders like career and sandbox from 1.0.0 into 1.0.1 or would it be better to start over again.

Totally safe. However, you'll need to unlock the new fin ("purchase" it on the R&D screen or in VAB) since it was added to a node you already researched.

AFAIK, you have to download the full update.

Steam just downloaded 15.6 MB for KSP... and the start screen says v1.0.2.842

At 600MB per time, hmm. I know it's the 1990's but it still hurts.

Yeah, the patcher still seems to not work all that great. The Steam updater seems to work pretty well. Both will suffer though, if there are duplicate (renamed) parts. That's why you'll often hear "it's safest to delete the Squad folder." Because then you won't end up with multiple copies of the same parts.

The patcher has never worked for me, not once since it came out in version twenty something or what was it. Clicking update in launcher says 'downloading patcher' and then nothing, it's always been this way for me.

(edit, noticed this is flagged 'windows', I'm using linux)
