Probe shows 13 parts in tracking station/orbital view, but in flight only shows 1 part.

I'm having an issue on KSP Windows 1.0.2 with a probe that only shows up as a scanner, with 1 part. However, in the tracking station, it shows up as 13. I checked the 1.0 save file in 1.0, and it was the same way there.

Evidently this is a known bug where if you place the survey scanner as the first part, the rest of the craft can "disappear" when switching away and back to the craft.

It definitely isn't. I had this happen to the replacement orbiter while it was sitting on the pad in 1.0.2. That's how I figured to google survey scanner bugs and found the existing bug talking about this.
