What Engines are you using for your interplanetary transfers in 1.0?

Recommended Posts

I've seen a lot of debate over the LV-N nerfs and I'm wondering what designs people are using for their interplanetary vehicles now? I've seen some people suggest the Rhino engine, but it's very heavy and doesn't seem fitting for smaller missions.

The nerfs on the LV-N are mainly only for the Atmospheric thrust and ISP, which were pretty borked anyway. I still use the LV-N's, sometimes I'll use the Poodle if I'm just going to Duna or Eve or something like that. What engine is best really depends on where you're going, what payload you have, and how fast you want to get there.

What tanks do you use to fit enough liquidfuel?

The skipper works very well for going to duna

Why not use the poodle since it weighs a little over half as much and has a higher ISP?

LV-Ns for beyond Duna/Eve, chemical rockets for closer.

herman, there are LF-only tanks in 1.25m, Mk2 and Mk3 profiles, the Mk3 ones have quite a bit of capacity. I do miss a 2.5m option, though.

Thanks! I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something with all the new features. I could tweakscale a 2.5 , but that seems a little hacky, especially early game.

KAX has one, but that mod has yet to be updated to 1.0.

Actually, what I'd like are MK to rocket sized adapters with only liquid fuel.

I know it's a bit of a nitpick but those LF only tanks are aircraft tanks and they're made to look right used in planes. Though when it gets down to something working that won't stop me from using them if I need to.

(or using modular fuel tanks to say make an FLT-800 carry 800Liters of LF)

I agree, there needs to be a way to custom load fuel into tanks so that you can have a large orange LFO tank for example. Ideally we need larger ion and nuke engines too.

There's also the part where they destroy your heat shields.
