settings only partially saved between two sessions

Recommended Posts

I've been running into this glitch since 1.0.

The key bindings are saved correctly from one session to another, but nothing else (audio, graphics, etc.)

The "settings" file is written correctly when I change settings, but when I re-launch the game the file is rewritten with default option (except the key bindings).

KSP is a steam version, clean install (currently 1.02), no mods and my OS is Xubuntu 14.04 with nVidia 311 officials drivers.

Any idea ?

Same on Windows for me. It just does not respect most of the settings.cfg. Audio is at full blast (well, 50%, but it is a loud game to begin with) and scatters are disabled. Interestingly, it runs at the right resolution (and that 1536x1024 resolution is awesome for those like me who like to play windowed on an UXGA monitor), but if I change audio in-game, it plops back to 720p and locks up the UI.

Also unmodded, also nVidia, also Steam, but Windows 7.

Ok, so it is actually weirder than that. Not every key bindings is saved: action groups are not.

Perhaps it is a keyboard layout issue (I have an azerty keyboard)?

KSP does have trouble with azerty yes, the KSP.x86 should be fine though as it forces posix compatibility (LC_ALL=C), the KSP.x86_64 however does not, so that may be why some settings are lost.

Action groups are written to the craft files, and can be affected in the same way.

Screen resolution is backed up to the prefs file in "/home/user/.config/unity3d/Squad/Kerbal Space Program/", you can delete this file to force KSP to make a new one with default values.

Thank you for your reply, sal_vager.

Unfortunately, I have already tested what you said and there is no results. I am running KSP.x86, I have already deleted the settings file and KSP created an other one.

I have tried with KSP.x86_64 and I've tried LC_ALL=C too.

Action Groups are saved though, but the key bindings for action groups are not.

permissions of the file :

-rw-rw-rw- 1 me me 23953 mai 4 19:47 settings.cfg

Besides, it would be weird; a part of the file is correctly rewritten: the keys bindings.

Am I missing something?

Ok, so it is a language issue.

My computer is set on "French" with regional options as "France".

I've just logged in an "English" session with regional options as "USA" and it worked.

My guess is: accentuated letters or decimal symbol (coma versus point).

The problem that plagued ksp on non-english computer is back and worse (it now impact some windows OS too).

I switch to "solved" for now.

Solution: switch your OS language to English for KSP sessions.

Thanks sal_vager.

It should be noted however that it is useless to write those parameters in the steam prompt.

I wrote a little script and it works but that is a pain for anybody not comfortable with a computer.

Anyway thanks again sal_vager!

Hum! That's embarrassing, I made a typo!

Gosh, I wrote a script rather than check my spelling... That is overshooting!

Anyway, no need to open a bug report, isn't it? Although the behavior is new, the underlying problem is the same than before.
