Running the throttle at 25% on the LV-909 means that ore extraction and ISRU conversation and fuel consumption are in balance. You can run the engine for as long as the ore lasts, which with a class C is a very long time.

I started burning with an intercepting class C well out from Kerbin and made an orbit after an hour or so.

Well you could do a compromise. Take a bigger ship and use the asteroid to top off the tanks.

Okay, it's still pretty smart. I'll have to keep this in mind for whenever I get around to upgrading the Tracking Station.

Well, I've just made a 150K round orbit and the asteroid resources are at 82%. So not too bad.
