Add-on releases is a mess

I really hope I'm not asking for something that has been asked a million times already, but to my surprise I couldn't find this when I searched for it.

But sorry if I just missed it.

I think the Add-on Releases subforum should be split into at least some basic categories. As it is it's a huge mess and it's hard to find any mod that hasn't got any new posts in its thread, especially if you don't remember its name. The only categorization right now is an unnoticeable and generally not very useful [part] or [plugin].

If it was split into categories the same way Tools and Applications are separated right now, then it could become much more manageable. Every category could have its own prefixes, so looking for a specific mod could be a lot easier. Also I think that would make it easier to notice those new mods that haven't yet become popular.

Could it be done? If it could be done, would it be a mess to move all mods to the correct categories? Would it be worth the effort?

I can't really speak for how practical it would be to split it into categories (though I think there might be trouble with mods that fall into more than one category), but I can help with finding mods. Use the advanced search function and "search thread titles only" for the mod name reliably delivers the correct thread. Sorting the forum by "thread start time" at the bottom is useful for finding what's newly released. I haven't discovered a good way to find mods for which I've forgotten the name, other than asking on IRC. :P

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
