Must say i love the new exhaust animations

I don't think we need to worry to much about that, Unity 5 might well be an absolute gamechanger when it comes to physics performance.

Yeah, its just because in the atmosphere the game is processing a lot more info now on each part, its not game breaking the lag goes away once you leave an atmosphere.

plus the memory leak fix, thats a life saver literally lol

I love the new launchpad smoke effects and if you have a large or powerful enough rocket, you'll get the dust effect on the pad as well.

It just looks cool slowly rising out of that smoke cloud. I haven't had too bad of a framerate hit either, you can see that it's a nice 25fps, actually it was already at 25 fps on launch, the effects don't even drop my framerate.

In 1.0.2 craft start to lag in the atmosphere at 300 parts for me, takes 500+ parts for me to start lagging in 0.90

Its not the effects but ive also noticed this myself.

I used to be able to have roughly 1000 parts loaded at any given time and at least be able to hit a capital ship with missiles from another capital ship. And 500 parts was when stuff started to get stuttery but not quite laggy. Now i get the stutter with just 300 parts, and i start to have major lag with 600-700 parts. Heck, in 0.90 i could even load a 2000 part ship and get it to orbit (not that the slideshow was fun but hey), now i can BARELY get 1000 part craft anywhere as the lag is so painful.

Id guess it has to do with teh new aero/heat effects. Heat is constantly calculated per every part, and is much more complex then before, so perhaps this is where at least some of the lag is coming from. Then again, ive recently switched to much simpler ships and very few of my craft are above 200 parts with most of even that ends up being weapons as you just cant have a guided missile without a probe core, fuel tank, engine, payload (some heavy structural part so it actually can hurt stuff), and the decoupler to get it off the ship. Then ofc is the whole armor issue, with armored craft being borderline impossible to make without using ALOT of structural panels that are kinda small for a true capital ship.

Anyways as for teh effectx, i like them, makes dropship landings much more enjoyable, and in general helps with the immersion as you rockets actually create smoke and dont just have it phase through the ground.
