DDS, 3D Max, and UV Weirdness

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I am using 3DS Max 2015, Photoshop 6 with Nvidia DDS plugin, and for models I have created in the past that use png or mbm textures, everything looks fine. The moment I replace the mbm texture with dds, it seems like the UV maps are in all the wrong place. I have tried using DXT 1 compression with no mipmaps and with mipmaps and het the same result. I have also tried using Paint.Net with the same result. Has anyone else run into this problem? When I get home I'll post some pictures to show what I mean.

As Porkjet stated, textures need to be flipped vertically before exporting to DDS - this is because DDS uses a different coordinate system compared to other image/texture formats.

When the image is flipped the lettering disappears in GIMP, completely.

I wish people would strive better in this forum to give concise and complete instructions.
