WWII German Experimentals

Recommended Posts

So a while back i found a site by the name of Luft46.com. This site is a resource on many experimental, prototypical, and "napkin" design german fighter and bombers.

The challenge is to make planes

--> as accurate as possible to the site

--> using stock and parts from any mod that does not include procedural parts

--> minor clipping is ok, it just needs to look good

--> Fun

--> blow up keep kerbals safe

Post Pictures Here!

To start off, my rendition of the FW "Flitzer"

Flies like a dream

And here I thought I was pretty decent at aircraft design in KSP. So, I looked over your challenge and picked 2 of the ones that looked the hardest to fly. The Fighter Project 1 and the FW TA 283. The whole time I was building them I kept thinking, there's no way they'll fly. COM is waaay off the COL and the thrust is waaay too high. Well, I got an education. The FP1 flew great and the TA... well it was a bit of a beast but I was pretty surprised with just the fact that it lifted off the runway on it's own and flew straight.

Kinda like the Gotha tho. I'm partial to tailless designs and surprisingly, even without a rudder, it flew quite nice. In the image I'm testing air brakes to help control pitch and yaw. It didn't really need them though. And yes, it has another engine pod tucked underneath of it.

The Lippish was definitely the most acrobatic of the bunch, I just couldn't figure out how to stuff a Kerbal in the rudder... so it's a drone.

I found that too, a lot of these planes end up having really weird COL, COM positions yet still work

I also found the TA very lacking in performance.

You did a really nice job recreating the planes!
