Landing on Minmus

Recommended Posts

I don\'t use mechjeb either. For some reason my computer doesn\'t realy like that plugin. Going to Minmus is pretty easy with the patch-conic system, although I am still learning the timing. I usualy make a quicksave when I\'m in Kerbin orbit, then when I think I\'m in a good position I make a transfer orbit till the conic system shows that I\'m going to reach Minmus\'s SOI. If it becomes obvious that I made an error about the transfer orbit and I will never reach Minmus\'s SOI I quickload and correct my error. Currently I made 9 attempts and I managed to get there without an error in 6 times.

Wait, does this guy get an achievement for the first person to land on Minmus with MechJeb?

For anyone worrying about timing of the TMiI (have to distinguish it from TMI), do the injection burn when you see it rise over the horizon. Ideally, you should start it before you see it on the horizon, but the new patched conics system makes a transfer trivial. Once your AP is at Minmus altitude, keep burning until you see an intercept with the patched conics.

The phase angle from your craft to Minmus is 115° for a Hohmann transfer (compare that to 111° for transferring to the Mun).

what i do is go to ascent autopilot and make an orbit on 150km inclined 6 degrees, when im up there i go into orbital operations and click trans (transfer) then i click transfer into minmus orbit and let mechjeb do it\'s thing, when i transfer to its orbit i get my ascent autopilot and click engage which circularizes the orbit around minmus, from there i go into landing autopilot and click land.

edit: i have learned to do it without mechjeb and stock parts without cloud7 aka c7\'s new parts

eh what i do is get into an equatorial orbit around kerbin and shift it\'s inclination to match minmus\', from here i see 65° from minmus which is going anti clockwise (0° being minmus and 180° being opposite of it\'s orbit, then i see where i have to burn so i get there so i get there and burn, when i see that my map tells me ill transfer to it\'s orbit i just speed up and wait for it to pull me in where i orbit, land, takeoff and of course get back

My technique:

1) Launch munar stack to an equatorial orbit.

2) Time Trans Minmus Injection when Minmus rises on the horizon

3) Burn prograde until Apoapsis reaches 47.4MKm.

4) Burn normal - or + to rotate your trajectory up or down so that the Apoapsis intersects with Minmus\'s orbit. At this point, the patched conics should pickup the SOI change.

5) ? ? ?

6) Profit !
