Issues with "Stage Only" on the Resources Tab

I've noticed since 1.0 that when I click "Stage Only" on the Resource tab to keep track of my fuel level while in the map view, it still seems to show the fuel from all remaining stages as well as the current stage. In 0.9 it seemed to work fine, and was very useful for keeping track of when staging needed to happen. Anybody else notice this?

I don't think stage only did ever seem to work correctly for me. Some crafts just confuse the heck out of it. Which is weird, considering e.g. the remaining fuel for a rocket engine is shown correctly in the staging list.

Weird. As I said, I never had a problem with it in 0.9, so at SOME point it was working as intended. It's a relatively minor issue, but still inconvenient.

I don't rely on it, as it hasn't worked for me. Or at least, it hasn't been consistent at all.

If you don't use it, what do you do to keep track of your fuel use, just keep switching back and forth between the map and the rocket?

The game is more enjoyable the more time you can spend in the flight view rather than the map view. KER's HUD sections are excellent towards this goal.

In 0.90 it worked without problems on nearly all designs I made. Since 1.0.2 (haven't tested 1.0 and 1.0.1) Stage Only does seem to show all fuel at all times for me even on simple designs.

Personally it doesn't much matter to me either way, but I will agree that when showing someone the game, the more time you spend in flight view the better. The map stuff tends to confuse them more than anything else. LOL

I think it's always had problems if you put a decoupler separation and engine activation together in your staging sequence

I had an odd case yesterday though, where the "Stage Only" view showed more fuel than what my current stage had left, but by an amount that didn't match any of my other stages.

My preference is to put separators/decouplers on their own stage. It means I have to peg the space bar a bit more, but I'm not worried about that too much. The only thing I add to the decoupler stages are sepratrons and/or chutes if I'm trying to recover the stuff.

  • 3 weeks later...

I did some test about this....

The problem is how the game is counting the stages ( I guess ), because I noted, doing ALL separated stages (engines and decouplers) still having the same issue. Changing them to the same stage, sometimes fixed it, but sometimes it calculate worst hahaha, let me explain it:

I was about to launch, and I decided to check this first... and I noted: Before start Stages, the "Stage Only", only showing the Batteries, its ok... Cutting all the power and activating the stage, it will start to show the Fuel in that stage, but sometimes, for any reason it is adding the LAST stage fuel!!! why? its a mistery!!

BUT....

in the VAB... do click in the decoupler and release all in the air (not connected to the vessel), then click it again and adding it... doing this with all decouplers. In some cases, the "Stage Only" showing it correctly... strange.

Also, i tested, the stages fuel calculation have troubles if you add a part in the fuel tank... Its like that will turn that Fuel tank always in the calculation (I tested it just with solar panels), with they into that stage, it add the fuel to the calculation, moving the solar panels to the cockpit, it will not... strange hahahahaha. Are there a Kerbalien into my ship?

And, i must say, this "Stage Only" feature its really useful in MAP view, overall if you create several stages for long flights and you must burn a lot of fuel. Yes... its true... the funniest view is Flight mode, but if you see for eficiency... you NEED this hehe.

Best regards guys!
