Game Lags like Hell when looking down Kerbin Ground.

Recommended Posts

Does not occur on other planets (Though I only tested on the Moon and Eeloo, only kerbin seems to have this problem. Also did not occur before the 1.0 update.

Looking up in sky = 60 fps, looking down to ground = 22-34 fps. And it drops instantly.

It does not matter if you are near the KSP launch pad, you can be on opposite of the planet and still have this ridiculous drop.

Also I am flying a low part count stock ship. So its not the part count that cause the FPS drop and neither is the Launch pad or buildings.

My system:

i5-4670k

AMD 7950 Boost

2560x1080 Resolution

Latest AMD beta Drivers

Does not matter which settings, low or high still have this problem.

I've always had this, in fact in space I have to orientate my view to a particular bit of sky so my framerate doesn't drop through the floor.

Another trick I've found is to switch to map view and zoom all the way out, which makes my framerate suddenly increase for some bizarre reason.

OK so this is clearly a bug. Just now created a new career save and I had no fps drop. I am playing normally. After this I exit the career game, create a sandbox game and no bug! No fps drop. So I exit the game to desktop and restarted and went back to my career save and the bug came back. Tried doing the first step but still have that bug.

So again clearly a bug, but trying to repeat is random.

It's due to the way water is rendered (poorly), all AMD GPUs (such as the one you have) are effected by this, regardless of how powerful the GPU is. Thus when you look at the water (which is also below the ground) a massive lag spike will occur.

If that's the case, any quick fixes to the problem?

@Sal_vager for the logs is it after I exit the game?

Also I might have figured out the cause, the cause is the sm3 shaders being turned on. But I remembered that I had that setting turned on before 1.0 and no problems. So wierd. Also it looks terrible with it off

It shouldn't be, which is weird, as .dds doesn't need to be converted before use by the graphics hardware and takes less memory.

We'll need to see your logs and dxdiag to determine anything further.

Please see here. [Link]

@komodo just tried that setting, holy .... it works! Normal FPS. Tested an assortment of settings. sm3 shaders with fast rendering = Works! Sm3 Shaders with Simple and above rendering = Fps cut in half when looking at horizon, Turning Off Sm3 shaders with any rendering setting = Works.

@Sal_Vager

Here are the logs and Dxdiag
